Get out of here, Stalker.
STALKER games grow on you.
The atmosphere is pretty creepy
There are environmental and biological distortions that are ghosty.
The weapons and combat were derived from people knowledgeable about both and the weapons are pretty accurate in an encyclopedic sense.
One thing I never forget is the sound the dying characters make.
I also learned that when you open a closet look down in case a soldier is kneeling and ready to shoot you.
I remember reading about a soldier who was killed that way for real.
Another curious thing is that the characters dont say much and there are no women.
If you're tired of silly battle Barbies this is the game for you.
The first STALKER is the best imo
excellent games

Bought this for my legion go but I can't play it doesn't seem to support controllers. I wasted my money. I have the steamdeck as well but I imagine it's gonna be the same thing. Anyone got it working on either system?
I can't speak for the Legion* however the Steam Deck has plenty of support for controller layouts which output K&M to the game. You are using the built in controller but the game thinks you are pressing WASD, up, down, left, right arrows and so on. Basic rule of thumb if the default layout isn't working then download a few of the "community layouts" starting from the top -> down (they are organized by community popularly by default). Someone has probably done all the legwork for you, especially with games like STALKER which have so much community support.

Also, it is also really easy to setup you own layouts (takes a little time) and makes understanding how to customize official layouts or community ones a cinch once you get use to the basics. When you get the hang of this it can really open up the world of games that are not only playable in terms of software...but actually PLAYable in terms of enjoyment and interface. Note: Even with perfect layouts games with lots of inventory management can be a PITA without a legit mouse or native controller support though.

Very basic overview:

Source: I play plenty of older FPS and 3rd person PC games on the Steam Deck, most of which have zero native controller support or the controller support cannot be remapped. K&M controls emulated by the SD is the only real option.

*The Legion probably has a similar system built in but never tried so I cannot testify to this.

So Anomaly is standalone which means you don't need to have any of the base games?
Should I play the base games first or dive straight into Anomaly?
Correct. Standalone mod with all the mechanics from Stalker and then some.
