They are most likely going to charge you whatever their cheapest oil change is so you're still paying for oil (granted, it's cheap dino oil). If you live near a high school that still has an Auto Shop class, many of them will do minor services like this for free or pretty cheap.

Also, depending on your car, you might be able to use a fluid extractor (through the oil dip stick tube) to extract the old oil and if you have a European car, a lot of them have the oil filter on TOP of the motor so there's no need to get it on a lift or a jack (and WAY less messy). This is how a lot of Euro dealers do it (if it doesn't need to go on the lift for some other reason). I don't know what your limitation is but this may be a viable option for you. This is how I've been doing oil changed on my Euro cars for years.

It really isn't. The certification covers far more than just viscosity (e.g. additives) and shows the manufacturer approves of a specific oil for a specific engine. Example - any BMW LL01 oil will be fine for any of their cars that specify that kind of oil, but the viscosity may be 5w30, 0w30, 0w40, or 5w40. GM, VW, Mercedes, Chrysler, Ford, Toyota, etc. all have their own certification process. A few years ago on a cross country trip i stopped by walmrt in NY they said itwas $15 labor charge if i have my own oil and filter. At that time i was high centered on only mobil1 since it was new.

Likely ok, but check your owners manual for recommended viscosities for operating conditions. If it's not in range, I wouldn't risk it if the car is under warranty.

your car user manual will have oil chart in the chapter that covers technical details. the chart matches oil to temperature ranges. if 0w-40 fit in your temperature range and has large overlap with 5w-30, then it is safe to use.

Yes. I have had this done a dozen times.

Just MAKE SURE THEY DO IT. Two places stole my expensive full syn and filter and gave me their toilet oil instead.

I'd suggest getting this done at a drive thru place where you can visually see them pouring in your oil.
