I have three of the 2018 Roku Ultras and while they aren't "slow", they do take a few seconds to load apps. I do have Micro SD cards installed so it's not that it has to re-load the app. I'm just wondering if anyone has any firsthand experience with the two models, and if anyone knows if these current Ultras are still using the 2020 hardware. Google seems to suggest that is the case. Wondering if it would be worth upgrading at all aside from the rechargeable remote.

Yes same HDW - looks like no USB ports. Dont even know if my 2020 has USB ports!

Apple TV/Shield is still king. Buy once cry once.

Not exactly sure how they'd do the same with a separate box since it would require input switching, but I can imagine it would serve up an ad any time you paused the content from the Roku for more than a minute. And yeah, that gives me pause about buying another one because I paid for streaming apps to avoid ads, not have more of them.
Problem is that I'm not the only person in my house, and teaching non-tech people a new/different UI is a challenge if it takes more than 2 buttons, so an HTPC isn't really an option unless someone knows a simple one that can use an IR blaster remote.

I'm no Apple superfan but ATV is clearly the best bang for buck option, with zero plans for things like this in the future. Considering the occasional ATV deals that can be had here, its a no brainer to spend an extra $40 for piece of mind and less "you're a product" invasiveness.
I believe this is the last/latest model for the Ultra

My research says it is fixed if I plug a roku into the soundbar. But I haven't pulled the trigger to switch from TV built in.
