Decent price. Costco is selling the same system without the graphics card for $700 (they claim it's a $300 discount [costco.com]).

Literally on the page is the ability to upgrade the PSU for $50 - to a very good PSU. And add liquid cooling (that they use on the K series) for another $50.

Dells have issues, but the PSU and cooling problems you guys are mentioning are literal options you can change direct from Dell before you order - I don't even think you clicked the link.

Going forward in your life, you should understand and learn to know that you aren't as smart as you think you are and this is making you overconfident.

Also have a G5 and did the same exact thing. You add the Vetroo CPU cooler as well? Mine runs 24/7 as a Plex server and seed box.
I added the noctua u9s with a slight modification the the mounting hardware.

Ive got an old XPS 8500 that still works OK and been thinking about a new one but PC prices (like everything else) still seem high even on sale. Might look into any possible updates/upgrades.

Which recent Micro Center deals are you referring to? Or just a general Micro Center pricing statement?

Something like this would be a sold start to a great PC.

It's an 80Plus Platinum rated power supply. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

If you don't understand the difference, you're probably used to overbuying wattage on an 80Plus Bronze.

That's fine, but your electric bill would appreciate the Platinum.
The PSU only output the power needed by the components installed. Platinum or Bronze rating is more marketing gimmick and the efficiency differential that can be translated to $dollars savings is minimal. I'm looking at an example such as running a full load of say 500w and it draws say 550 vs platinum at 520. But as I know my PC is running 24/7 at around 50-60W most of the time.

Interesting. It sounded like you no longer have it. Upgraded or due to any hardware failure?

The Power supply is likely a Dell proprietary unit, meaning it doesn't have standard connections and would be difficult to upgrade.

Your interpretation is flawed.

An 80Plus Platinum is more efficient at power conversion, thus less overhead wattage (the peak wattage stated on the package) is required to meet the needs of the system.

That correlation in efficiency translates regardless of how much power is being used.

The takeaway here is that less overhead wattage is required to meet the needs of the system. Thus, there's less wasted power overall.

If you think the difference is negligible, you're probably not paying your own electric bill.

What does that have to do with their comment?

They said the wattage is inadequate and they are wrong.

I mentioned in another comment that you would need a harness if you wanted to swap to a retail power supply, but that had nothing to do with this comment.

You can upgrade the video card to a 4080 (or 4090) right there on the configuration page.
I should have been more specific.

Trying to fit an aftermarket 4080 in this is going to be difficult, unless you're very selective and choose one that matches the reference card dimensions.

A lot of 4080s are longer than reference length and won't fit.

The difference is negligible because the system is running at 1/10 of the max wattage of the PSU most of the time. You don't sit at your desk and max out the PSU. Kindergarten logic here. What's your IQ?

You added parts to the system, it stopped working, and the resolution was to replace the motherboard. This is the fault of the PSU how?
the only thing that can fry a motherboard is the PSU
