Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't realize Samsung had a version out. Need to see reviews on it though, like you mentioned, the LG didn't have great reviews. Only 90 days to return it but I also don't want to miss out on a good deal. What to do....
Our purchase happened to line up perfectly with a move into a new house. It's unlikely to see a price this low for a while - it seems like all three companies started with an intro price around $2k and then prices shot up to their MSRP and have been fluctuating ever since.

Gods I wish I had the money right now. This thing is so insane and I want one.
In my experience, these are terrible. Your clothing comes out damp instead of dry. You also have to empty out the water container.

I didn't even know this was a thing. It's actually not that expensive for both washer and dryer. Question is... how does it perform vs a LG washer/dryer combo
In my experience, living in Europe where they use these. It's total crap. I don't recommend it at all. The clothing always comes out damp instead of dry.

I doubt this has changed much in the last 6-7 years, if they couldn't do it before.

PS, this is with expensive washer/dryer combo too. So it's not a low quality item problem.

I highly suggest do a lot of research before committing. Otherwise, I'd love to get one so I can save expensive real estate in my home. I'd like to be more minimalist.

I bought my parents a really high end (top CR rated) LG washer and dryer.
After I did my research on this yesterday I am glad I did.

There's pros and cons to this:

Pros:
1. 110v
2. No dryer port needed
3. Saves space (2 for 1)
4. Very efficient. Saves electricity
5. Don't need to transfer wash to dryer.

Cons:
1. Expensive
2. Unproven tech
3. Need to clean CONSTANTLY or drying performance will continue to deteriorate
4. Questionable reliability - if your machine breaks, you're out both washer & dryer
5. CR rating is 63 (GE) & 66 (LG) compared to the high 80's for LG's traditional washers
6. Drying is UNGODLY slow. Potentially double or triple times.
7. Cannot wash and dry at the same time, leading to potentially double laundry times
8. Questionable warranty support from GE
9. Constant, common complaints that clothes do not dry completely.
10. Clothes feel damp coming out of dryer (this is normal, per GE). Must shake and dry out each thing that comes out of dryer.

Overall: If you need 110v or don't have space for washer and dryer and don't mind the negatives, go for it. IMO the tech is just not there yet. Traditional washer & dryers from LG are still the best.

The tech on these much like the tech on heat pumps in general has improved dramatically the past 5-10 years which is probably why they are just now coming to America. Europe needed the space savings and didn't have the vents etc in older homes. We didn't so no reason to deal with the downsides.

Also AFAIK these don't have water you dump. They require a drain and put the water from the washing and drying down that.

But yeah heat pump tech has improved a LOT in the past decade.

You kept switching back and forth between LG and GE. I assume the whole post was about the LG you were looking at? My understanding is the GE in the OP is better than the others on the market right now.

FYI- there is no water container to drain out manually, these have a pump that drains water through a hose just like a conventional washer.

So the technology has drastically improved recently. Thank you! Good to know.

How is this w/d combo?

Does it work as good as a separate dryer and washer?

appears you can add an upright freezer to the linked LG set (without pedestals) and total remains $1899, basically making it free:

I don't PERSONALLY have experience with it, but the reviews I read said the washing is as good, and the drying is roughly as fast as a standalone. Your total THROUGHPUT if you are on top of things will be worse than separates of course, but if you are like me and regularly forget to move them I imagine it's faster lol.

But yeah, the GE reviews all looked good both the professional reviewers and the customer reviews.

I've owned this exact GE washer dryer for 8+ months. I love it. We put clothes in, we get dry clothes out. It takes about 2.5-3 hours per load. But it's awesome.

Highly recommend.

If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area, Airport Home Appliance have a slightly better model (WM6700HBA washing machine and DLEX6700B dryer) for $1698. The main difference between the WM6700 and the WM6500 at Costco is that the 6700 has the ezdispense feature where you fill it with washing liquid and it automatically dispenses the right amount for each load.

There is this appliance guy on YT (Ben's Appliances and Junk) who does comparisons, teardowns and gives his thoughts on appliances. I watched a few of his heatpump washer/dryer videos and am headed over to see if he's reviewed this unit.

He has some good insights, like pointing out serviceability with his teardowns, which is something an average user doesn't think about, but should consider.

I watched all his stuff after seeing this thread.

IMO glad I bought my parents the traditional LG washer & dryer.

Yeah, in my experience, LG has made some great washers (front load) and dryers. One of the places I worked for got 2 new sets back in 2008. Just regular units from Home Depot. They went 5 years with an average of 7 loads (each) per day. Washing towels, clothes, microfibers, comforters. Everything with varying levels of sand, mud, grass, hair. (cabins, on the beach).

Only issues we had was hinges going bad due to user errors, such as people spilling bleach (tray was over the hinge side) and not leaving the door open after use, so we had to do more gasket/tub cleanings than we should have needed . They bit the dust after a flood, being submerged in a foot of water. For a residential unit being used how it was, I was extremely impressed with them.
