It is a knock-off of the Breville Barista. The company is actually GE Appliances.

It has mixed reviews though. https://www.cafeappliances.com/ap...7CESAS4RW3
To avoid problems with leaking, I would just refill the water tank in place and clean it on occasion, rather than removing it each time to refill it. Other people complain that the grinder stopped working after a few months. I would give it a shot if I were looking for an all-in-one semi-auto. If you do get a lemon and don't want to keep it, you have 45 days to return it, but the customer pays for return shipping (don't throw away any of the packing materials). It does come with a 2-year extended warranty for free though.

For the money, it's really impressive. The Cafe has an interesting feature. It uses an app called SmartHQ that allows you to control the volume, water temperature, and strength (I'm not sure how it does that). I could see being able to change the temperature and shot volume as handy. A huge 95 ounce water tank, low water indicator, PID temperature control, nice legit looking 58mm portafilter and tamper. It should come with four baskets, 2 pressurized, and 2 unpressurized, but I can't be sure. The owner's manual shows that it does. https://products-salsify.geapplia...26orug.pdf his is the parts page https://www.geapplianceparts.com/...SO_MACHINE Don't lose that portafilter. $195?

Also, it's not a discontinued model. It still sells for $579 on a lot of sites. At $149 there's nothing remotely comparable considering all it comes with and offers. It's an outstanding value IMO.

Note: There are 15 grind settings, not 5 as stated on BuyDig. Buy dig also has the weight of the machine as 14 lbs, it should say 24. After doing a deep dive into the specs of this machine, I think it's a great design. I wish I needed one. A lot of the complaints sound like bad luck, or user error in some cases.
Trust me, GE offensively markets their Cafe line with Wi-Fi/smartphone control but it's total garbage. You can't even use that to turn it on/off, the alerts don't work, it never notifies the need for scaling, and the volume/temperature/strength controls literally don't work. Simply put, it's fraudulent and their "engineers" blew it off completely.

Also, this model is effectively discontinued. Their current model (which is already somewhat "discontinued") was a grounds-up redesign and much better/more compact.
249 brand new at Walmart for the gray one right now.

I'm sorry, but volumetric dosing is not about time, it's about volume. A volumetric machine is one that can dose a programmed measure of water when pulling a shot. The shot is supposed to run until the machine detects that the programmed amount of water has been dispensed. So if you are saying it doesn't dose by volume than yes, GE is lying.
I'm honestly not sure; they don't disclose nor use the technical words to explain (naturally).

ok, comments give me pause. I don't like coffee in general and only drink it to wake up. before I only used drip coffee machines and thought that coffee is only drinkable if you add enough half and half to it. so, will this get me to the right path of becoming a coffee snob at some future point (and make make existence less miserable in the meantime) or did I just give up some extra space on my countertop for nothing? if anything, I already think that this one was an expensive purchase so please don't suggest trying something with the right number of "bars" and proper "volumetric" stuff for $XXX. TIA

As someone that made the deep, deep dive into espresso during COVID, I'd say yes. I wasn't a big coffee drinker and only had Keurig pods at work. Now I went through 3 machines in the last 2 years (superauto > semiauto (BBE) > dual boiler) as I kept wanting more control and small improvements. As a similar affordable Barista Express, I'd say this will take trial and error to get right and you may waste some coffee but once you get it down, it's hard to go back to any non-espresso coffee.

That being said, you can stay as surface level as you want or go super scientific. At the very least, you'll need to sort of learn how grind size, grind weight, output volume, and pull time all kind of work together. Plenty of YouTube videos showing the basics.

Pro tip: get a scale and single dose your beans and measure output to get much more consistency.

Definitely a rabbit hole and expensive the deeper you go with very much diminishing returns but if you stick with it, I'd expect most people to appreciate the process and think it's worth the learning curve and effort.

I've gone from Keurig, Nespresso, and Aeropress to a Philips 5400 super auto. I'm very disappointed in the Philips as it produces awful weak coffee. I've tried to give it a chance and gone through lots of coffee. 30 days is coming up so it's going back but I like the fully auto idea so I'm going to try another one. These days it's all about saving time for us. My daughter has a similar machine as posted. Takes work to produce a good espresso drink.

If you don't like coffee in general, espresso is probably not the way to go. Then again, if you've never had an actual shot of espresso, go to a coffee shop and try one. Espresso is very different from drip, you might surprise yourself and like it. The flavors are much more rich and complex. If you can't do black coffee but already know you like and want latte's or cappuccino's at home, you need an espresso machine to make those.

IMO, the Cafe would be a good choice, assuming you don't receive a lemon. At $149 it's comparatively inexpensive as it's loaded with features that would normally cost hundreds more. All those buzzwords, volumetric dosing, PID temperature control, 58 mm portafilter, unpressurized baskets), are all positive. It does a lot of things right, but YMMV concerning durability.

I actually bypass the steamer on my high-end espresso machine and use the Aeroccino 3 because it's that fast and easy, with "wireless" power and easy to clean - look into it.

This thing looks monstrous! I'm looking for my first espresso machine and want a deal on the tiny Breville Bambino. Bambino is better than this, right?
Make sure to look into the differences of the Bambino and Bambino+ to see if the "+" is worth it for you.

Just received my machine today and pretty quickly regretted it. I've purchased refurbished before and most of the time it was like new. This, I'm not even going to unpack from the box. There were coffee grounds in the box and the machine looked dirty. I was able to look at the buttons and the power button was completely worn off from being used. This machine has to be heavily used or is just that cheaply made. The walmart deal for the new one was probably the better choice. Maybe it's just luck of the draw on the refurbished machines and others will have a better experience.

Now I have to debate on weather I just try to warranty this thing with the 2 year warranty or send it back at a cost...

Mine is the same filthy. Milk gunk and coffee ground everywhere. Button letters worn off. They should label it heavily used and not reconditioned.
