The Home Depots around me have had these in their clearance sections for $9.99 for the last month or even longer. Today I went and there was a big box of them with no price. The cashier could not get them to ring up but I walked her back to the clearance section and it suddenly scanned at $2.53. Went back to her cash register and it would not scan again so she rang it up at $2.53. It was all rather weird as the smaller green ones are marked in clearance at $5.99. Bought 2, with one to use on my high amp EV cord plugged in to a 10g 50' extension cord and one for my corded lawn mower. After 11 years a heavy rain got water into the cheap plug end cover and shorted out my EV cord electronics. $200 bucks for a used off Ebay.

Just not needed for "protection". I will give it a little credit if it keeps them from coming apart. OP price is more like what they are actually worth.

Protecting wise: Eh, I have several versions of this and It's more for a long time (or moist) use of extension cord coupling (though plastic wrap and duct tape works for short time use TBH depending on sprinkler location and power 😜)

These things are great. I use them for an extension cord to my chicken coop water heater and it keeps it dry inside.
