Dell might have the best price we've ever seen for a prebuilt gaming PC equipped with a GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card. Right now you can get a Dell XPS gaming PC with this coveted GPU for only $2294.99 shipped after a 10% off coupon code "10OFFCLEAR". RTX 4090 GPUs are currently difficult to find at MSRP; right now, a 4090 GPU on Amazon sells at a $300-$500 markup. If this is the GPU you really want, you will definitely save money by getting this prebuilt PC like this one instead of going the DIY route.

If the GPU is worth the $1600 MSRP (it's not, unless you are making money with the GPU, but that's where the market is currently), that puts the rest of the computer at $700. That is assuming you can buy a 4090 for MSRP, which isn't possible very often. You're looking at maybe $1800 minimum.

With current prices, you can build a comparable machine for about $2600 (plus money for Windows 11, a keyboard, and mouse). Dell's offering saves you about $300 over this:

Intel Core i7-13700 2.1 GHz 16-Core Processor
ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 72.8 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
ASRock B760M-H/M.2 Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
Crucial CT2K8G48C40U5 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR5-4800 CL40 Memory
TEAMGROUP MP33 512 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
MSI GAMING TRIO GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB Video Card
Thermaltake Versa H18 MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Deepcool PX1000G 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Total for that build with current prices is $2636.75.
I used to be a builder, now I'd go pre-made. Time > Money
some say this is ugly, but the RGB puke on every "gaming" PC looks ugly to me. This is a good deal for what it is. Can't build it cheaper.

Read the reviews another commenter linked to.
I did. I even looked at the pictures that show ONE (small) FAN in the back with the liquid cooler attached to it. Cool air blows in from the front, right over that boiling hot 4090. Now all the interior air is very warm. That interior air then is blown over the already hot radiator to try to cool the CPU? I mean, it's sort of elementary that a 4090 in that tiny box with one fan already occupied by a CPU cooler is going to be a problem.

If it isn't, then everyone who reviewed the R13 and R15 Alienware desktops (twice the interior space and fans) and said they thermally throttle are either lying or these XPS reviews didn't do enough to try to run the 4090 and CPU at max.

Or instead, someone can enlighten me how all that hot air is supposed to keep the insides cool?

Yep. Dell does thermals right in my experience with XPS, Precision, and OptiPlex desktops.
I don't think I've seen, in recent years, any XPS desktop sold by Dell with a 4090. Usually it's much lower end (cooler) GPU's, or just integrated graphics. I've got an 8960 that's just running 770 Intel graphics and is nice and cool (as it should be with iGPU).

Everyone is calling this machine out as not a great gaming machine for various reasons, and I cannot agree more, it really isn't a gaming machine, but a killer deal for an AI developer.

The problem is the Dell uses shitty parts, and it's ugly. shake head

Motherboards are the first to go, and dell's are absolutely bottom barrel for Power delivery VRM designs. Once it blows, you have to get another one that fits, and that one is just as bad quality if not worse than the first (if buying used).
Ugly?

It's 1000x better some RGB gamer build.

Amex $120 back on $600, split to 3 card payment.
$2295 - 3x120 = $1935.
Decent deal, but no need for such power and still ~2k

Proprietary parts?

I can't imagine putting a 4090 in a pc with 512SSD and 16GB of RAM, it seem lazy and dumb; there are some upgrade options but you'll want to add a few hundred to your budget. I've bought prebuilts but prefer to build. I'd be concerned that if there is a mobo or psu issue you're stuck with a few components. I'd verify upgradeability before buying this because I know you'll want more storage and am sure you'll want to at least double the RAM

Exactly the reason why I bought this machine a month ago (with 10% sign up coupon instead of the current one). Maxed out the ram at 64 gb. Very happy with the purchase, exceptional performance without the hideous RGB lights that seem to come pre-packed with any decent pre-built with a gpu carrying adequate vram.
