My Samsung induction range seen 4 major repairs in five years:
* display went out
* top two burners stopped working
* oven fan started making grinding noise and replaced
* oven control board replaced

If you do not know how to troubleshoot it and replace it yourself, then forget it. One repair job will cost $500

My research this month for purchasing a new stove says Samsung ranges are universally prone to problems and are notoriously expensive to repair. We went with another brand.

Not the person you're asking, but I got a GE induction range 6 months ago and have had no issues so far.

The research I've seen indicates that most Samsung appliances are that way other than the ranges. Which brand would you recommend? I've looked at Bosch but I could get two of these for the same price. One of the reasons I was looking through Costco is for the support in case there's an issue.

Samsung changes model every year. The same stove with different model number. This is the way they deal with negative reviews. It also makes searching for parts very difficult.

Still in the process but after chatting to several appliance repair people I've narrowed it to GE or Frigidaire induction. Ideally would get Bosch or Miele but too pricey.

We purchased a GE Profile electric range from Costco a little bit less than a year ago. One of the glass cooktop cracked and chipped. The range is still within one-year warranty but the GE guy told me that the cooktop is only covered for 90 days only and I need to pay almost $400 to fix it. The Costco Allstate Protection Plan doesn't help at all in this case as well since the plan I purchsed from Costco was the Standard plan (I don't think they ever mentioned that on the Costco's website). Only the Accidental Damage Plan will cover this repair. So take good care of the cooktop if you decide to buy a electric range.

Thanks for the head's up on these deals. Ended up going with a different LG but still got the $300 off $2,000 and then a $100 off for two appliances.

The LG is LSIL6334FE which is newer than the Samsung by maybe two years so I'm hoping for the best. It's got great reviews so far. Only day 1 but it looks a lot nicer than my last induction range, a maytag from 2011 which only died recently so 13 years doesn't seem too bad. The new induction having knobs is really nice and also the layout is better with the larger ones up front with the two smaller centered in the back. Also love the fact that it does not beep when you take the pan off the heat for a moment. That was so annoying.

I paired the range with a top-load washing machine, I think front-loaders are fine but you definitely want a pedestal and costco will not sell you a pedestal without buying a pair so I went with the highest reviewed top-load by CR, WT7150CW which scored 85 compared to their 87 for the well-regarded LG WM4000. Top-loaders clean just fine and the impeller is not rough on clothes, uses bit more water but you don't have to worry about cleaning the gaskets or mold, etc.

Just ran a load and it's simple and very nice. Runs very quiet in comparison to my older maytag which was still functional but bearings were shot so it sounded like braking metal on metal. Also the song at the end on the LG is much nicer than the ear-piercing shriek of the older ones. The spin is intense and the clothes come out close to dry so you probably can save on lower dryer times.

So far so good.

Is it the PHS930YPFS or PHS93XYPFS model? I was looking at the first one since I cannot justify paying $1k more for a inside camera. Where did you purchase it from and how much was it? How much do you use it on a weekly basis (days/times)? Just trying to gauge this because I worry about the glass breaking since we cook so much.

This is what I am worrying about. There is so much mixed reviews about the glass cracking. We do a lot of cooking and this is my only concern.

Glass cracking will be the same risk on any glass top. A lot of people use them, and they are still being sold, so one would assume glass breakage is not high risk. What you need to balance that with is the ease of keeping the cooktop clean. It is almost guaranteed that something will spill and the ease of cleanup is something to keep in mind. You can always line the top with aluminum foil but the glass cooktop looks nicer. And induction is a whole different ballgame, if you are ready to adjust to its style. This is a good video:

It was PHS930YPFS. I got in on sale at Costco for around 2600 I believe. I use it probably twice a day on average. Haven't cracked the glass at all, but I'm also very careful about placing things down on it. Also have silicone mats for the burners, though it does make the process a little less efficient.
