The one downfall is none of the included ringtones sounds like an actual phone ringing, which we did have on her Alcatel. We were worried she may not recognize it as a phone ringing when it plays a little tune (she has moderate dementia). But that turned out not to be a problem, and I think she probably missed calls with the old phone because she couldn't hear the ring as easily.
I think you can get these unlocked after 2 months, would have to doublecheck that.

I don't think you can just move the sim but maybe transfer the service will work. The Reddit Tracfone user website will give you all the help you need. I asked a question about my service which was expiring the next day and they talked me through using 2000 point to extend my service and keep all my allowances for 90 more days while I shopped for a new HSN phone bundle with another full years service.
