Is this model SM-A136U? Runs on the Verizon network if sticking with Tracfone?
In previous threads some folks mentioned this phone came SIM unlocked from the beginning. Anyone want to weigh in on that? I'm looking for a cheapo backup for Mint (T-Mobile) coverage since I cracked the screen on my Pixel 7 Pro a few days ago.

Don't know if it's the norm but many, including myself, received it unlocked out of the box. However, the model is NOT as you asked, it's SM-S136DL and haven't been able to find U1 firmware for it yet.
Anyone know if the TF plan is tied to the phone in any way? Can I give it away or sell it for $10 or whatever? Is there any value at all in activating this phone with TF if you don't need the service (or want to use a different phone with the service)?

TF sim/bundled plan is linked to IMEI of phone it ships with. Normally phones are locked for 60 days - these have shipped unlocked before & no guarantees that will continue. Just do your research & know what you're buying beforehand (& don't be surprised if it does come locked like it's supposed to).

Ah, good to know. In a perfect world, I'd be able to root it, but I'm keeping my expectations in check.
And because any time someone says "root" in a phone thread and folks come in to tell them why they don't need root in 202X, I want to install the Pixelify module in Magisk for:
free, full-quality Google Photos uploads,
call screening,
call recording
Also AdAway - which is superior in every way to the VPN-based ad-blocking solutions - but that's secondary. There is no non-root way to do the items above. In any case, I'll use the phone only until a solid deal on a solid phone pops up. RIP Pixel 7 Pro, you were good to me
I bought this phone before and did test using T-Mobile SIM. The phone was not unlocked. I had to use it with a Tracfone SIM for 2 months to get the unlock permission. Then I verify that it is unlocked to work with T-Mobile SIM

I think this isn't possible on the Tracfone variant. And to the other poster, I don't think bootloader unlocking is likely, either.

The 'value' in activating it is unlocking the phone in 60 days. (Unless you get lucky & get one that is unlocked out-of-the-box, as some users have.) For practical purposes, you will not be able to sell the plan on it's own, since the only way you'll actually have the plan is by activating the phone. (So you'd be selling a partially-used 12-month plan, with attendant problems.)
You can certainly let someone else use the plan, after activating it. That person would need an eligible phone, of course. (It's not that hard to transfer the online account credentials, change email address, etc.-- and there's no need to enter any credit card info or personal details when activating the plan, so that part is not a concern.)
