This may not be true for all their EVs but the one I rented did not have a charging cable inside. That was a huge bummer and inconvenience.

If you got AAA you can rent a Tesla for 7 days for $254 all in. Which is cheaper than what it comes out to most times for 3 days without AAA it was around 285/week

They gave me an EV instead of a gas powered vehicle the last time I rented a car. They had no gas powered cars available. The car only had 20% charge when I picked it up.

I went to a free charging station first. Seemed like it was taking too long. Went to a paid one and there was a line. Went back to the free one. Realized it was going to take until 4am to get around half charged. Went back to the paid one and waited in the line.

I was there until 1am to get it charged to 70%. Filed a BBB complaint and got refunded for the rental. Really turned me off to EV's.

There is a reason Hertz put up 20,000 EVs for sale couple months ago and opted to replace them with gas cars instead

That's pretty standard now, at least for Tesla's. It is unfortunate because then you don't have an option of home charging if it's possible. Even 5 mph of level 1 charging is better than zero

Eventually all EVs will be able to access Tesla network, but even that network has gotten strained. In SoCal, waits at chargers have become commonplace because they aren't building many anymore and the number of cars continues to rise. Home charging will need to happen much more frequently if there's any chance of widespread adoption, particularly in other locales that don't have many superchargers at all at this time and lower adoption due to lower gas prices or climate conditions

This will soon become another EV vs non-EV nonsense thread.

This sounds like a renter issue as I wouldn't rent a car from Hertz whether EV or gas with only 20% battery or gas. Demand they fill it up or charge it before your departure at the Hertz station unless it was a neighborhood non-charger location, but most Hertz locations have chargers.
We'll aren't you special. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I think Hertz just tossed the EV's into the fleet and called it a day. Employees had no training and couldn't answer basic questions such as how charging worked, where to find chargers. Giving a non-EV renter an EV with low charge... wow. It must be a low margin industry as I've gotten similarly bad service from all the big names.

I wouldn't hesitate to rent Teslas but charging other EV's can get wonky. I've had issues with multiple CCS chargers with one of them refusing to unlock from the car while I was in a hurry. The phone support person couldn't do much and it took a while before the charger finally decided to unlock and release the car.

In Los Angeles I had to wait an hour in line to charge my EV, then another 50 minutes to fully charge it. Super inconvenient renting one...

EV manufacturers are shooting themselves in the foot offering free charging for a year or whatever. It may be a selling point over other EV competitors but it disincentivizes home charging and encourages overloading public charging. This creates very vocal and dissatisfied customers and hurts the industry as a whole. They need to get together and ban that incentive.

Do they charge you a fee if you return the car with a low battery?

No, they'll just file a police report about the car being stolen and the next person who rents it will go to jail.
