For metal on metal lubrication like for hinges, white lithium grease is best IMO. Silicone can be used but it won't last as long as the lithium would.

Silicon Grease is good at lubricating plastics and making things non stick and slippery. You can try spraying your snow shovels and your snow blower chute to help prevent snow and ice from sticking for example.

WD40 is a poor lubricant as it become sticky/gummy over time. I use it to clean my metal tools though as It's basically kerosene and mineral oil. Since kerosene is a solvent WD40 will make a decent metal cleaner and once it evaporates the mineral oil is left behind to help prevent and protect against rust.

Who knows? It's a mysterious can labeled as silicone lubricant, so my super wild guess is that maybe it can lubricate things, but I may be way off there. Let us know when you find out.

I believe silicone grease is good/ideal for plastic on plastic lubrication; things like plastic gears for toys and drive trays for CD/DVD drives. You don't want to use WD40 or White Lithium Grease as those would slowly degrade plastics over time due to the solvents that they contain.

Fluid Film [fluid-film.com] is the best overall grease/lubricant IMO. It's based on lanolin which is derived from sheep wool; basically placing sheep's wool in a centrifuge and extracting the oil contained within. Fluid Film is not corrosive and is safe to use on plastics as well. The only con is that it's somewhat expensive and does not smell pleasant IMO.

Will it work on rubber, like rubber gaskets, rings, seals, and won't swell it over time?

Fluid film is def an awesome grease/lube along with rust protection. I know folks that spray it on the underbody of their vehicles to protect from rust and swear by it.
