I believe that it has to do with the role that "narrative consulting" firms like Sweet Baby Inc play in restricting creativity. Many blame them for how bad the latest Suicide Squad game was. Disney does consulting in house so it is hard to assess how much censorship and editing was done before releasing the final product (for example, the character Dahlia had an "authenticity consultant"). I can easily see how these actions end up stripping the fun and fantasy elements off of movies by trading quirkiness for bland political correctness and gripping adventure for safe stories with no risk and no reward

Disney seems to be shooting themselves in the foot.

Are they lacking creative talent to produce good movies despite having abundant financial resources? Alternatively, is there someone or rather someones hindering their creativity and imposing restrictions on what they can create? I don't know.

Targeting an audience that does not consume your product will lead to bankruptcy.

The world would be a better place if that were to happen.

Disney had this issue during the end of the Disney Renaissance. At the tail end animated films were just losing their luster. CGI brought that back with Toy Story, Tangled and Frozen being huge successes.

They just need to ignore the crowd demanding that Disney eliminate diversity from their movies and that Disney censor gay character, that doesn't matter. What matters is that the films entertain.

Disney just entered a deal with epic games. They see that movies aren't the money market as they used to be, so like any company, you change directions. Smart move, I would say, since gaming is going to be huge in the next few years, especially with VR and AI and chip advancements. They also created moving floor that can handle 2 people on it for VR
