That's for a 2022 Model Standard iPad [amazon.com], not the latest iPad Air which is $500 at the moment on Amazon [amazon.com].

This post is for one sold Direct from Best Buy as well, not eBay.
I would only vouch for the 64GB model to people who are positive they won't need the storage, but it can disappear fast these days. iPadOS takes up 10+GB alone. Another big offender would be an iCloud Photos album with years of photos/videos in it (mine is 20GB.) Some popular apps will eat up gigabytes in cache.

But, if you're the type of user who just wants a side device primarily for common internet apps, and don't often take up much space with apps/photos/music/games on their other mobile devices, then sure.

I agree 256GB is probably far too much for most people. They did this on purpose -- there's no 128GB option because they want you to notice the 128GB iPad Pro that only costs $50 more than a 256GB iPad Air, and what's another $50 when you're already spending hundreds?
$400 for a 64gb tablet is not a good deal.

You are a VERY casual user.

64gb is barely enough for 2-3 movie rips. If you use your device to record lectures or videos, then expect to be out of storage fast and its an enormous PITA.

BS. Most good recording apps other than Apple's native apps can save to external drives while recording. A quality Sandisk or Samsung USB-C drive run 18 bucks for 128GB with a sustained ~350mb transfer rate which is more than enough and is a far cry less than what Apple asks.
Handbrake makes quality movie length 1080p rips under 2GB each which allows considerably more than "2-3 rips" to be stored. It's a 10.9" screen, you don't need to be uploading 4K to this thing.

Those people who complain about the 64GB storage are non-sense. The first few generations of iPads were totally fine with 16GB.

Great deal. Picked up sameday from local Best Buy. The pink color actually looks like rose gold.

Good deal if you got it I guess. Price raised to $500 and itll probably be that way until the new iPads drop in May.

Got one too. Quite beautiful! Doesn't matter with the color since it went to a cover right away

I think the problem many people face is that it's most convenient to download a season of a TV show from Netflix or Prime etc. for offline viewing. Those only allow storage within the app, which means internal storage. Yes, one can store much more to en external flash drive or HD, but many folks don't have tons of movies or shows in offline format. And even if they do, it might probably be something they've already seen, and wish to catch the latest season of some show on steaming apps.
This is what I'm really asking about -- downloading movies from Netflix, Prime, Peacock, whatever before a trip. If those downloads only work with internal storage, and I don't store any photos or games, how many movies (or hours) can I typically download on the 64GB model?

In general, Netflix says its SD video quality takes 1GB per hour, HD takes 3GB per hour and UltraHD takes 7 GB per hour. However for downloading content there are only two settings 'Standard' and 'Higher'. I could not find information on what they mean, but if were to assume Standard as SD and Higher as HD, you can say that at worst downloads will be 3GB per hour. On a 64GB iPad, you can practically assume maybe about 15-18 hours of video download at most. Of course, you can download standard quality and get much more.

Now personally, I feel 15hrs of video is long enough for any flight. Even on a 20 hr flight, one is not glued to the iPad all the time. However, people may want to download full seasons of a show for a trip. Hotel WiFi is often notoriously bad at many places, or too expensive for high speed download (often $15 to $20 per day). Downloads via hotspot to your phone may not be an options due to roaming etc. You get the point.
