This is not the same as comparing a Kia to a Mercedes. Yes, a Mercedes can get you from point A to B the same as a Kia, but you're getting a lot more than just that with a Mercedes. This is a keyboard...period. The reason why it seems to work seamlessly with the iPad is because Apple purposely made it so, just to give the impression of superiority of its keyboard over other brands by forcing it that way with their algorithm and whatnot. But in the end it's still just a keyboard that types... that's it. There's nothing else special about it and you're not getting anything extra out of it.
Is it a deal? Sure, but simply because it's lower price than MSRP, and you do what you want with your money. But you're not convincing anyone by trying to justify paying $200 for a keyboard.

You're getting lot with it. A stand that magnetically holds your laptop, and acts as a doc. It can charge it and connect to a hard drive. It has a trackpad with gesture support, and backlit keys that look flawless. Again. Show me another, better option. I'll wait.
Not to put down any car models, but this is perhaps the Mercedes of keyboards as compared to the Kia of keyboards. Different kinds to satisfy different users.
Exactly. This "accessory" is the only thing that ever got me to use my iPad. It transforms the experience.
I have this keyboard. It has plastic vinyl wrapped on outer layer that will come off in about a year. It still works but it is coming off on all edges and looks like trash. It's not worth it and quality is not there, either. Stop kidding yourselves.
If you're satisfied with a $10 keyboard then that's great but you are not the target market for this. I have issues with this but the overall experience is unmatched.
It's a $200 ipad accessory. Nothing slick about that.

The rationalization/marketing is impressive. Gotta give the devil his due. Apple absolutely knows who their customer is.
This is a great keyboard has many pros but for me the biggest con/flaw is the finish. It attracts dust very easily and it doesn't easily wipe away with your hands it sort of sticks to it. I ended up returning it because of that issue.

Exactly. I bought a cheesy $11 Bluetooth keyboard for my first iPad Pro. It was okay, generally worked pretty well. It came with a case that housed the iPad and keyboard, that could be used as a stand . The set up worked pretty well at a desk or table, but didn't work at all on a lap.
The Magic Keyboard is slimmer, weight is comparable, but works on a desk, table, lap, bed.
I didn't want to buy it, coz i thought it was too expensive. I got it a year or two ago, open box off woot for $150- and it's definitely worth it. The nice logitechs were just as pricey when I looked.
It's a great product. I hate that the regular price is so high, but I'm sitting here contemplating buying one of these for my wife - we share mine currently as our iPads aren't primary devices for either of us currently.
That's how good it is.
I think it's too expensive at regular price, but am contemplating picking up a second for the household at the discount.
Again, if you are happy with a $10 keyboard, then this deal is not for you. Many of us here do realize that you are getting a much higher quality item here then you get with the $10 investment. (either that, or we are being mesmerized by Apple's successful marketing, lol). I don't care what the product is...in recent years, when I post a deal on Slickdeals, someone always chimes in with how they got an equivalent product for next to nothing. I personally, have come to appreciate the bells and whistles of a higher end product an do not mind spending a bit extra for the product. It always gets me that someone shells out $600-$1200 for a high end iPad and then quibbles over the money for an accessory that I consider is fairly essential for the daily use of that product, and will help decide on the functionality and enjoyment at using that product. Sure it is not perfect. Another flaw (unless I am missing something), is that, unlike a bluetooth keyboard, there is no way to pair this with an iPhone, when you are not using it. I cannot attest to its longevity, but its initial feel and quality and even use, is far better than any other keyboard I have used with ipads over the years, and that includes over 10 different keyboards of any price, ranging from $15-90. My main gripe is not that you get an occasional gripe on the price, but it seems some take it very seriously that some are willing to shell out more money for higher quality product.
I got rid of my laptop and use an IPad Pro 12.9 with a Magic Keyboard full time. Is it over priced? Absolutely not when it improves productivity and can generate me more money with it. Yes I tried other keyboards and mice, Magic Keyboard just works every time, and with very minimal issues.
Like people going to a concert, you hear the same song sitting in the nose bleed section, but will you have the same experience sitting in the front row?

I tried this out when I tried out an 11" iPad Pro. Have to say it allowed me to have the experience of a laptop (as well as any Apple product can do that). There are cheaper nice BT keyboards in the $50-$100 range, but if you already have a compatible iPad I think this is a pricey but very useful device. The comments on finish longevity concern me, would press Apple on it if it looks like it's a manufacturing defect.
I've owned dozens of iPad keyboards over the years and this is by far the best product Apple has put out (in terms of accessories). I started out with the cheap Logitech keyboards and eventually transitioned to this Magic Keyboard. I'm never going back to the cheaper ones again. I've avoided paying full price for this keyboard ($350 msrp), but as soon as I caught a slick deal under $200 a couple years ago, I had to try it out. And I'd say this is the best value for this price range.
This magic keyboard basically made me sell my MacBook Pro, because I no longer used my laptop anymore. That's how good this keyboard is. It replaced my MacBook completely.

This!
The Magic Keyboard converts your iPad into a MacBook essentially. It's super well built, has an excellent typing experience, adds a charging port for the iPad, and doesn't require external charging or batteries.
Carrying an external charging solution, keyboard, and mouse defeats the purposeful portability of the iPad.

Find me a better one at this price. I've tried them all. This one is excellent. I've been using it every day since it came out.
