If anyone is trying to decide between the regular and executive membership, just know/remember you need to spend $3000 in store or online annually (with a few exclusions) for the executive membership to pay for itself/recoup the extra cost. Every dollar after that is profit.

And I believe you can get a refund if you decide halfway through that you definitely won't make it, just in case.
Their scan and go app is phenomenal though. Hate standing in line at Costco like a sucker. Their TP and paper towels are still cheaper than HEB, and better quality too. Bottled water is cheaper as well, if you need bottled water.
FYI for anyone who bit on the $20 card offer last week - no price match on membership promotional offers. I tried on chat with a representative earlier.

I signed up on May 2nd. Went to Costco the following day and got the membership activated. They made me a new card.

Still haven't received anything (as of May 24th). My previous membership had expired over 18 months ago. Absolutely hate having to call customer service for such things.

Problem is there is no mention of the $40 discount in the email confirmation. It's just on the SD thread. It's such a bait and switch. Really disappointing.

An update - I called Costco, and then they called back stating that the promo code I used SLICK24 expired Dec 2023, and that the promo code is not valid (For awareness, I signed up May2nd, and activated membership at the club the next day). I argued that I did see the terms and conditions before I signed up, and that if I see the $0.01 discount on there, it means that the promo code was applied successfully. However, they are saying that seeing the $0.01 discount on there does not mean that the promo was active. I have requested they escalated it, and I've been advised to call back after a week. However, this absolutely sucks. I am regretting not going through the StackSocial link that was valid at the time.

Their system is a mess. They denied my claim saying the slickdeals promo code expired Dec 2023! SD thread says that getting the $0.01 discount means promo applied successfully, which did happen for sure. In fact there are folks reporting they got the $40 card even when they signed up 10 days after I did.

So, some people are getting the full $40, some are getting only $20, and some are getting none at all. This is a total mess.

I don't know why I signed up again with this deal. Back in 2016 I had a problem getting them to honor their promo deal when I signed up so I cancelled. I figured by 2024, they'd have caught up with Sam's regarding technology. Nope, they're still living in 2010. No in-store inventory online. No idea if a product is even sold at a location. No Scan and Go (especially with Sam's new system that magically scans your whole cart and they don't have to scan your QR code anymore). No store pickup. Higher prices online.

It makes no sense. I didn't get this promo so I called. It's so difficult to get a human being on the phone - their system has no option to select a human. Their representative said they couldn't see why I didn't get the promo and couldn't help me. I asked to cancel and they claimed it wasn't possible because I had claimed this promo. How dumb is that - they couldn't see the promo associated with my account but they couldn't cancel my account because of the promo.

Guess I'm going back into the store to cancel.

Costco is an awful company. I hope the rumor is true that they invest in their employees because they don't appear to invest in anything else.
