See if you qualify for the general 10% discount that seems to be there always on westerndigital.com.

Final Price I paid per drive: $54 ($18/TB)

I understand this is not the typical $10/TB, $11/TB sort of deal. If you are looking for something like that, this deal is not for you.

For people who don't need that much space, for whatever reason, but need newer drives that are compatible with NAS systems (like Synology DS923+), I think this is a good deal - especially if they need 3 or 4 drives to fill their NAS system with compatible drives.

Yes... we can find used Ultrastar drives on eBay for $80 or so for 12TB... but are they compatible with your new NAS? So, please spare me from the per TB price.

You have to sign up for Western Digital's email list to get the 10%-15%-20% roulette discount directly from WD.

Any decent deals on roughly 8tb sized drives or bigger? Don't want to spend a lot.

Guess I've been out of the loop for too long. What is the issue with using older drives in modern NAS?

Exactly what I'm waiting for as well. Hopeful that someone from WD marketing lurks at SD and gives us a deal. Lol

The OP might be talking about the 3.3v power state present in newer WD drives but if this doesn't affect you it's fine; generally it's been people having issues with newer drives and older PSU; but the then default state would leave the set the drives in off mode.

Interesting find. The 3TB is cheaper than the 2TB! Amazon has the 6TB on sale for $110.49 - Western Digital 6TB WD Red Plus NAS Internal Hard Drive HDD - 5400 RPM, SATA 6 Gb/s, CMR, 256 MB Cache, 3.5" -WD60EFPX. Western Digital's price is $139.99.

Still looking for an external deal with 8TB at $100ish. Why aren't HDD dropping prices like usual?

Anyone know who makes the quietest but still most reliable HDD?

WD Red vs seagate (not a big fan due to failure rates) vs HGST etc

Reddit seems to be pretty unanimously in the Red camp for noise.
