Word of caution, the whitening effect is due to how abrasive the toothpaste is on your teeth.
Yeah, I'd get standard toothpaste. If anyone is curious I am now going to share my ultimate teeth care methodology.
Only once a day needed, I do it in the evening.
1. With just water! Go over your teeth with a 2 minute timer electric toothbrush (a vibrating one, not rotating), 30 second each quad, brush carefully down starting from where gums meet teeth.
2. Simple floss up and down between all teeth.
3. Do a standard messy once over with (non-whitening) toothpaste and a soft bristle brush, and finish it off with brushing tongue and roof of mouth.
4. Gargle water sometime during your normal shower.

Personally I like the Stannous fluoride versions of these toothpastes better. One ingredient for anticavity and sensitivity and it works quicker (days vs weeks) after first starting. I usually get the whitening Sensodyne with Stannous fluoride.
Whichever way you go though, Stannous fluoride or Potassium Nitrate, don't buy this 'maximum strength' nonsense. This uses 5% Potassium Nitrate, the same as every other sensitivity toothpaste. They all use the 'maximum allowed by law!' only the others don't pretend like they're providing something special above and beyond the competition. I'm sure this is a fine toothpaste though and the price is right, just don't think it's going to be something special.
