If buying on VUDU/Fandango at Home, buy a gift card on the site for $100 while using the code APRIL24 to purchase it at $90 instead of $100. Once it arrives and you load it up you'll be able to buy the collection with our $100 gift card amount. I actually didn't have 66 of these movies so doing it this way, my cost was $1.36/movie. If you don't have any of them your cost would be $.89/movie.

Remember buying from Vudu gives you zero 4k upgrade rights.
With iTunes, if it gets upgraded to 4k, you get it.

Reminder that you aren't "purchasing" these movies. You're "purchasing" a revocable license that can be taken away at anytime. You will own nothing and like it.
oh god, you're one of *those* people.

Always important to keep in mind, decided to hold onto my DVDs and Blu-rays even after dumping a whole lot of money "buying" digital versions in hopes of minimizing physical "stuff." Physical media also has better picture and audio, and can be lent or resold in the real world.

Personal calculations on this bundle leads me to pass. Most of the movies I want from here I already "own" in one form or another, the remainders aren't worth $100 to me. Maybe at $50 I'd pull the trigger just for variety. If I was just starting out "buying" digital, then this bundle would be a no-brainer. (Bearing in mind that it's really a "lease" with an unknown end date).
did you calculate how half of my DVDs I owned from before 2010 no longer play properly while the Good Will hunting I bought in 2009 from Apple still sits perfectly in my digital library and got a free 4k upgrade (after contacting Apple support since SD movies don't auto upgrade)?

They only backed off after backlash, they still at any bloody time can revoke your crap. That's the part you're conveniently overlooking.

This behavior of renting content to you and calling it a "purchase" needs to stop.
You should be wary of the fact they tried to pull this crap.

And your point is? How does it affect you that people who think that this behavior is stupid and should be illegal. No one should be allowed to call a rental a "purchase"

Who cares? You aren't going to be able to do anything about it.

iTunes would be the way to go with this bundle. I am kind of amazed I don't have any of these already in my iTunes library. There are some great films in here, but I don't like adding movies to my library that I don't plan to watch more than once. If there were at least 30-40 movies in here that I thought I would rewatch, I would go for this bundle. Still impressed by the size and value of this. Repped.

Yes and Sony only backed off after there was significant backlash to the decision to remove their access to "purchased" content but they still could have gone through with it anyway.

It's not a purchase. It's a rental with no defined end date. You will own nothing and like it.
This is why I support those that remove drms from their movies and transfer them to local servers like Plex or Emby. If you buy something it's yours. If the advertising said "rent these movies" for $100, then I would be against doing that, but fine print or not, if I buy a movie it's mine, and I should be able to do whatever the hell I want with it other than resell copies.

This whole debate about "ownership" is a moot point. Both the studios and the streaming platform are making money off each other and they've been doing that for decades. Every you buy a Blu-ray and redeem the digital code, studios will pay the VOD platforms money. Digital copy also increases physical media sales. A lot of people buy physical media in order to get digital copy. It's a mutually beneficial business arrangement. The likelihood of studios deciding they want to terminate their collection on VUDU or iTunes is pretty much next to none. If anyone could have done that, it would be Disney and Paramount as they have their own VOD, but their collections are nothing compared to VUDU or iTunes.

Flixter and UltraViolet could have left their customers out to dry, but they didn't. When they exited the business, they merged with VUDU. I guess the real test would be Funimation which runs its own digital copy platform and most of their content aren't found in VUDU or iTunes. If they decide to go away, let's see what happens to the collection people bought over the years. My guess is that they would follow Flixter and UV model and transfer their collection and customers to VUDU or iTunes.

If I had to bet one way or another, I'll put money that my purchased collection isn't going to disappear.

And also there would probably be a class action lawsuit.

I'm sure there would be, but consumers would be on the losing side on this one. The TOC clearly stated that the availability of the content depends on the content owners which are the studios. Someone mentioned that Flixter and UltraViolet was shutting down, so it wasn't the studios terminating contents with them, so they had to provide their customers another option. They couldn't just disappear and take away customers paid content. Anyway, the likelihood of studios not wanting their content on VUDU or iTunes is next to zero. The studios and digital providers are making money from this mutually profitable business arrangement. That may be the only reason they want to keep this going.
