If buying on VUDU/Fandango at Home, buy a gift card on the site for $100 while using the code APRIL24 to purchase it at $90 instead of $100. Once it arrives and you load it up you'll be able to buy the collection with our $100 gift card amount. I actually didn't have 66 of these movies so doing it this way, my cost was $1.36/movie. If you don't have any of them your cost would be $.89/movie.

Remember buying from Vudu gives you zero 4k upgrade rights.
With iTunes, if it gets upgraded to 4k, you get it.

Thanks for the warning. I guess this deal is going to be a No for me, sadly. I only had 3 movies from the bundle, I thought I struck gold. 😆

Reminder that you aren't "purchasing" these movies. You're "purchasing" a revocable license that can be taken away at anytime. You will own nothing and like it.
They can't take it away. It's not that simple. Remember when Flixter and UltraViolet exited streaming, both transferred/migrated to VUDU so Flixter and UltraViolet users would lose nothing. I had nearly 1000 titles on Flixter and UV combined at the time. If Apple decided to ditch streaming which is nearly impossible, they are obligated to merge its library to another service, most likely VUDU and vice versa.

It was a lot of work and hassle for VUDU to incorporate Flixter and UV codes into their system. Flixter, UV, and VUDU didn't have to do all that work. Flixter and UV could have left their users out to dry. But they did the work to complete the migration. To this date, old UltraViolet and Flixter codes that are not Warner Bros still work on VUDU.

Google Sony discovery. Not only did they revoke the licenses because they lost the rights to them they also announced they were going to delete the content from people's devices.

It is that bloody simple. Unless there's enough backlash or someone with the rights is willing to take over. Then you're screwed. Look at how many video games you can't play anymore because the servers are gone. You own nothing. And. You. Will. Like. It.

They're not currently obligated to do anything, actually. However, such a move from one of the major players would be very bad for the industry.

Can someone confirm iTunes is HD some people are saying the bundle is showing up as a SD bundle

It's in SD and they verified it. Don't purchase if you want HD and above.

Not really worth $100. A lot of movies I've never heard of and won't ever watch. Maybe less than 10 I don't have already and would watch.
While I haven't heard of some of them, this has a really impressive set of films. I'd say at least 25 films that should be owned. This is a solid set. I don't know if I'd pull the trigger on it though. Especially if SD. Don't need UHD for the classic films, but HDX would be nice.

Witness for the Prosecution is the best court drama ever.
Several Jack Lemmon classics.
The Misfits is my favorite Clark Gable movie (the only one he actually acts in).

I see that iTunes just added another $99.99 option (though it doesn't say HD) in addition to the $99.99 SD bundle.

At the time, I believe Flixter was second or third. UltraViolet was smaller. I know all they had to do was submit a complete database of digital codes to VUDU so that you can redeem Flixter and UV codes on VUDU. It was still a lot of hassle.

I did google, and Sony reversed the removal of Discovery content. The consumers can never own the content. You get the right to watch the content anytime you want, removing the content would deny you that right. I'm no lawyer but I'm sure there are legal repercussions when Flixter and UV just disappear.

While I agree on thr points, for me digital is better because

1, No risk of damages
2, Doesn't have space to hold 100s of physical media as I have 900+ movies in my itunes collection.
There have been several deals on storage sheds recently.

Yes and Sony only backed off after there was significant backlash to the decision to remove their access to "purchased" content but they still could have gone through with it anyway.

It's not a purchase. It's a rental with no defined end date. You will own nothing and like it.

Which is why they found another platform to take over their customers and their libraries. They're not obligated to do it, but a major player like Apple dropping out of the digital movie space would likely find a taker for their customers and libraries to provide stability. It's not required, however.

A long time ago I purchased at full price How to Train Your Dragon from scamazon. This was back when they were called Amazon VoD. So it's been awhile. That movie went on an indeterminate blackout period.

Couldn't download it. Couldn't stream it. And it was a very long time before it came back. If you didn't have it downloaded prior to this then you were out of luck.

Imagine paying $20, $30, $40 to "purchase" a movie and then being told "well sucks to be you, rights holder said pull it"

I eventually got a refund after complaining to customer support for it but after that it left a terrible taste in my mouth. I will never again purchase anything digital.

Sony recently announced that due to a rights dispute with discovery they were going to do the same thing that Amazon did only they announced that they were going to go a step further and delete downloaded copies.

They eventually backed off after backlash. But you should never trust that your digital library is safe from a company being a dick.

Sony and discovery tried this bullshit recently. They backed off the deletion of downloaded copies after the backlash but the fact the still tried it is saying something

You're buying a right to watch it without any restriction: you can watch it as many times as you want and any time you want. But removing it will violate that right. I'm no lawyer but I'm sure a case can be made. The solution would be to give customers the refund but I think that's why Flixter and UV decided to merge their libraries with VUDU to avoid the class action lawsuits.

Also, the studios and digital platform made a mutually beneficial business agreement. Some people buy the physical media to get the digital copy and vice versa. I can name quite a few TV series which the digital isn't for sale from VUDU or iTunes, only available from digital code included in the physical media. Studios have to reimburse VUDU or iTunes whenever someone redeem the digital code included in the physical media. That's why Warner Bros decided to hard expire the MA codes because that's pure profit in accounting. The other studios that decided not to expire the digital code has to set aside money in case the digital code gets redeemed. I was told that VUDU and iTunes pay studios some money to get their product included in the physical media, and they get reimbursed a lot more when someone redeems the code. In a way, they are banking on getting some revenue from physical media sale.

There is this guy on Reddit who purchased 14,000 movies on VUDU. I don't think he has time to watch everything. If VUDU decides to disappear, I'm sure the guy would want to sue to get his money back.

Again, I don't think VUDU or iTunes can simply disappear without transferring people's paid libraries to another platform.

Yeah, but to go as far as accepting the legacy Flixter and UltraViolet digital codes, that had nothing to do with providing stability or maintaining customers' libaries.
