Just FYI, this game is in the Nintendo 2 for $100 voucher deal for Switch Online members
If you combo that with the Costco $90 for $100 eShop cards deal, you can get Paper Mario and another new release preorder (like Luigi's Mansion 2) for $45 each. (Or $40 each when Costco runs the $80 for $100 sale on the cards.)

Because Nintendo doesn't lower its prices, the secondary market for Nintendo games is always really strong. I'm pretty sure I sold my GameCube copy of Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door for the same price I paid new 10 years later.
Is this any different from the GameCube version, or is it just the same game with a slight visual/resolution update?
It's not out yet, but I wouldn't expect much beyond the original game with redone/refreshed/remade graphics and some gameplay quality-of-life features. Maybe some extra story content, but based on the Super Mario RPG remaster, it should be a pretty close copy of the original.
So that said, $60 seems steep but people love this game and will likely pay for it. Though the original still holds up very well, even graphically, so if you just want to experience the game and can find a copy of the old game for less than $60 (and have a Wii/GameCube/Emulator), you won't be disappointed.

I'd rather pay the extra $5 for physical copy
