I installed Hyperspin as my front end for all my emulation and the battery life is still not as great as a Steam Deck but it performs quite well at 10watts which gives at probably 3 hours. I haven't tested a long play because I've been playing at 15 watts. I only noticed yesterday evening that Dreamcast and Gamecube emulation will still run so well at 10watts.

The non Extreme Z1 is perfect for emulation if you can get it sub $400 (I got mine for $299 on that rare Best Buy sale) compared to a LCD steam deck since you get a 120hz screen with VRR and the newly updated drivers for AFMF. That makes the non extreme Z1 run games better than a steam deck. The drawback though is the lower battery life and the micro SD card slot not being usable. The extra cpu cores makes running emulation better on the Z1 than the steam deck too. Personally, I think $300 or $379 for Z1 is a better purchase than the LCD steam deck (so much cheaper). At $599, the ROG Ally is arguably a better purchase than the top model OLED Steam Deck. The midgrade OLED steamdeck should be the one to purchase before the Z1 Extreme as you will get the OLED for contrast and 90hz refresh rate (but no VRR). That battery life and software support makes the Steam Deck a great device. Personally, I'm using my ROG Ally more because of the emulation and I like to play AAA games on my desktop instead. I am hardly away from a power outlet when I game on the go (planes, airports, hotels, etc.). and if there is no power outlet during a travel, I'm actually moving about or driving.
but the new Asus Rog Ally X has been announced.
https://www.theverge.co
"Asus says the Ally X should now have more than its current 16GB of RAM so that you can allocate lots of it to the GPU without impacting the rest of the system. It should have a longer M.2 2280 SSD slot, so buyers can more easily find and purchase larger SSD upgrades than the current M.2 2230 allows."
Full details will be revealed June 2nd.
