Call the Canon Loyalty program number to get potentially 10% off your lens (refurbished included). I gave them the serial number for an older kit lens and it literally qualified me to get 10% off the RF 24-70 f/2.8.
Call (866) 443-8002, select option 2 when calling into Canon.
I have a small collection of Canon cameras. Ping me if you need a serial number.
Please avoid doing this. Canon offers a discount (10 or 20% can be a sizable amount depending on the camera/lens you buy) and people generally provide their own older canon lens or camera serial number and regardless of if its working or not they give you the discount. The prices off the sale are decent enough.
If everyone starts abusing the system by acquiring serial numbers off the internet, may be they would stop doing this. What are you trying to accomplish by providing serial numbers randomly?
I might get thumbs down for this but its not ok what you are doing I think. A handful of people may benefit from you but this why we stop having good things...
I am also a beginner who also purchased the R50 to learn photography. I've really enjoyed using the R50 so far, although I'm still learning all the different settings and controls. Photographs are so much better than smartphones.
I'd recommend you stick with the kit lens for awhile before you jump into your next lens. Learn what focal lengths you like to to use before you choose your next lens. Learn how to use your camera, learn to use lighting, learn composition, learn everything. Like they say, "Your first 10000 photos are your worst".
Also, if you wait. Sigma and Tamron just announced[sigmaphoto.com] new third party RF lenses for the APS-C Canon R series. I am also looking to getting into landscape and street photography. The 18-50mm looks like like a great lens for both.
Thanks a bunch for the suggestions, really appreciate it. You're totally right, I should focus more on learning how to get the best results out of the camera instead of just thinking about gear. Waiting till fall for new third-party lenses sounds like a good plan, but honestly, if I come across some sweet deals on refurbished ones, I might not be able to resist
Although the BF deals were much better, I decided to buy an R8 and am quite impressed by it so far. Except the power button, the lock setting is annoying. I have an R6 and R7, had an R5, R50, M6, M50 in the past. The AF on the R8 to me is much better than the R5 and R6 MK1, slightly better than the R7.
For lenses, I suggest the RFS 18-150 for crop frame models, or get an EF adapter. Tamron and Sigma are finally releasing RF S mount lenses, like the 18-50 f2.8

I've also ordered the R50 today after seeing it in the inventory and couldn't resist the price. It will be my first camera and it's refurbished. How was your experience with it? Since I'm a beginner, I will probably go with the kit lens, but after some time, what would be your suggestion for a second lens? Also, I'm mostly interested in landscape and street photography.
The R50 body itself is an incredible first camera, the feature set and image quality you can get for under $500 these days is better than ever. The autofocus is pretty much on par with my R6.
I sold off the kit lens immediately since I already have an R6 and a few RF lenses so I didn't need that lens.
For my R50 kit I went with the RF-S 18-150, RF 16mm f/2.8, and the RF 50mm f/1.8.
The first lens I recommend you buy is the RF 50mm 1.8, it will give you the "professional" camera look with the 1.8 aperture and will be much more useful indoors and in low light than the kit lens.
I would also recommend picking up an EF to RF adapter. As you learn what types of photography you enjoy you will find the desire for multiple types of lenses. The EF to RF adapter will allow you access to the over 30 years of quality and affordable EF and EF-S lenses that are out there both new and used. Some EF lenses I have used and would recommend are the
Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 pancake
Tamron 70-210 F/4 Di VC USD Telephoto zoom
Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM
Something seems to have changed with the upgrade program discount, the reps are saying that they cannot stack it with the current instant savings going on
