The original subnautica is one of the best games I have ever played, not hyperbole. Great for just about all ages too (though really young kids might get scared at a few parts…). Highly recommend you play in a dark room with a decent speaker system, the sound design in this game is basically unmatched. Very much wish I could play it for the first time again

If you like exploration and survival games with a bit of horror on an alien planet, definitely do so. I highly recommend you play blind. If adds to the immersion and realism.

After you finish it once, you can easily get all achievements in a fast playthrough. It can actually be pretty short when you know what to do.

Man, I wish I could play fresh again, too.

My kid would ask me to play the scary parts, like exploring deep into a sunken wreck when you could run out of air. The game is so immersive that it gets scary just from fear of drowning.

Rumor is they're making a third game. The second game while prettier wasn't as good.

You're right and this is actually really important. The joy in this game comes from exploration, figuring things out on your own, discovering things you didn't know or think existed, and so on. If you're playing for the first time I STRONGLY encourage you to avoid looking things up, watching YouTube videos, checking the wiki, and so on, it will really diminish the experience. Play it blind, it's much more fun that way. This isn't a game where you need to worry about perfect efficiency or whatever

yeah I enjoyed the second game but it was nowhere near the level of the first. The map in particular felt much smaller and less interesting than the one in the first game. Still worth checking out tho!

The first Subnautica was really good but I suggest using the map mod so you see where you've been.

I prefer the first one, but I think that's mostly because the second one didn't give me as many 'firsts' of oohs and awws if that makes sense! I also didn't absolutely love all the above ground play in the second (but still liked it).
