Amazon has a 2 pack for $25 which is slightly cheaper. They are different model numbers but they look the same. There also might be a coupon.

These are just re-branded Kasa ones from Tplink. They work fine but some people don't like wifi switches/bulbs, they prefer zigbee zwave etc. I don't mind cause my mesh covers 150+ devices.

They are different than the Kasa line. These are Matter compatible. Kasa are not. Both are made by TP-Link.

I just meant to say these are from tplink like Kasa. Kasa has some Matter switches as well. They are Matter over Wifi (not Thread anyways).

Matter is just a communication standard for smart devices that multiple companies are trying to follow so that you only need 1 single hub to control multiple device brands as long as those devices share the same Matter standard (instead of you having to buy different hubs for different devices, like Google hub, Apple hub etc).

"I thought matter meant local area network not internet based", not necessarily if the devices still run on Wifi, there can be Matter over Wifi, Matter over Thread (then this Thread devices will not rely on Wifi as you mentioned). Think about Thread as an extra way that devices use to communicate, besides Wifi, Bluetooth etc. For Thread devices you will need Thread border router (like an Apple TV 4K latest model with Ethernet port). But Thread devices are more advanced in a way to help reduce Wifi congestion if your house has a way too many Wifi devices.
