Don't do this. It's a natural sponge. This will rot the roots. Adding perlite helps but these are large chunks. The roots will grow into the chunks and within each chunk there will be no perlite or air. Just wet sponge. The roots will hate it. I speak from experience after trying this.

It is a good mulch but not a good soil. Use the nonchunk version of Coco coir for soil.

Used this a few years ago. Lasts about the same as regular bags of mulch and more of an effort to use, as well as more expensive. I would not really recommend, and will not be using again.

Personally, a little pricey for me for larger volume mulch beds, but wondering how this works for pets that use coconut husks at bedding.

yes, if you mix it with perlite for drainage
additionally some kind of fertilizer like worm castings (which costco also sells) would help provide nutrients past the seedling stage​

I've seen potting mix recipes of dirt, compost, perlite, coconut coir. Good to know this version won't work.

Coco Coir is a more sustainable alternative to peat in seed starting mixes and indoor plant soil mixes. I find it a great medium in vermiculture.

I agree. I've tried to use it as much ground cover. It's one advantage is that it's less bulky to transport over bags however you have to pay back all that convenience in time trying to make it expand on site. Not worth it at all in hindsight.
