Non-returnable due to hazmat safety reasons
My parents have it and have had no issues cleaning it. There's also a clean function of some sort that runs hot water through the spout. They keep a cup on there to catch that water rather than having to take the tray out more often.

If you don't care about automatic milk frothing, Costco has the version of this with the manual milk frother for $450.
I've had this model for about 6 months now (bought it from Amazon for 600) and I love it. I'm a stay at home dad (to a toddler), and if things aren't dishwasher safe, I generally don't get them. The frother comes apart in a few pieces that are dishwasher friendly (I stick to the top rack), and the main black lid part can be just rinsed under warm water (it doesn't seem that milk actually even touches this part). And, I don't even wash it every day. Because the machine pulls the milk up through the straw to heat it, the bit that remains in the container is still cold. I read that many people just pop the whole closed container back in the fridge for the next day, so that's what I do. I wash it all every couple of days. and as someone else mentioned, after you make your drink, you press a button and the machine runs hot water through the frother to clean it
Hope that's helpful.
FWIW- This is the nicest (and most expensive) coffee machine I've ever had, and in my experience, I'd say buy with confidence.

How is the experience cleaning the milk frother? Does anyone have any insight into how easy/hard it is to clean? The manual says it's dishwasher safe, does that work well?

That's because they've figured out too many people would return them just being persnickety. I wonder how they'll handle customers that actually receive a lemon (or damaged in shipping), will they receive a refund when they complain to Amazon? It's non-returnable, so you'll get to keep it, but will they refund the purchase price?

It seems like Amazon Prime is changing, with more and more items being declared "non-returnable". Obviously, they've determined they don't want anything to do with the refurbishing market, so everything just becomes "non-returnable". It streamlines their business. Products go out and don't come back. They'll take the hit on the small percentage that would have been returned.

If the item is defective or broken upon receipt, Amazon is still on the hook to replace or refund if it was shipped and sold by them (or fulfilled by Amazon) regardless of their return policy. If a jar of pasta sauce breaks in shipping, sure, they'll comp for things like that. It still the policy now, but they try to say "Sorry, this item can't be returned" and hope the customer will just say "Oh really? OK, I guess that's it then". It's a little shady to point to the non-returnable aspect if the product arrives broken or defective.

All of that aside, I would love to have this machine.

I'm lazy, I went with the frother at Best Buy for pickup today. Thanks for your input, helped me make the decision!

I'm seeing the "non-returnable" tag on a lot more stuff today, but there's a problem that has to be fixed if the item arrives broken or defective.
Yeah, returns has become a huge expense for Amazon and something like this I'm sure they are higher than normal because of buyer's remorse due to it's cost and complexity, even though it's automatic. Probably "cheaper" for Amazon to lose a sale than risk a return. But total BS about the Hazmat. It's no more a shipping risk than anything else they sell with batteries and circuit boards.

But I'm sure if it's truly defective Amazon will replace it, maybe not refund it unless it's no longer available. They'll probably get more precise with returns inspection and if it's it's not actually defect deny the return or something. Amazon CS has always tried to make me happy. That said, I'll steer away from "non-returnable". Not worth the risk or hassle to save a few $.

They've always been fair with me too. I mentioned broken jars because that happens a lot if you buy food with Subscribe & Save. I love Subscribe & Save and because of SlickDeals I have an order every month. There's almost always something damage from shipping in my orders. Some things I don't care, but...I mentioned jars of pasta sauce because it just happened to me (Prego Alfredo). It's food so automatically it's non-returnable, but one jar was exploded in the case, Alfredo everywhere. It was a fairly hazardous mess to sort out due to all the broken glass. The automatic response by the chatbot is "Sorry, this item is non-returnable". You can't stop there, you need to speak with a real person (chat or voice). Once I chatted with a customer service agent, at first they repeated the "non-returnable" line, but if you ask to be refunded for the damaged goods they usually take care of it. Sometimes if it's one damaged item in the case so they may pro-rate your refund, but in my case because the majority of the case was damaged they refunded me in full. I only mention this to help people that see "non-returnable" and think that's it, they have no other recourse. You do, but you have to speak with a human via chat or on the phone.

I'm sure amazon would prefer you to take things up with the manufacturer and go through the warranty process for a lemon. I've had some returnable big goods from amazon that had flaws and they offered me a partial refund for keeping the item (which I could then rma to the manufacturer under warranty) which was a good deal. There is no way in heck, though, that I'd deal with warranty for an expensive new product that arrived broken.

You bet they would, but that's a dealbreaker for me if they "ever" make that policy. FedEx and UPS (USPS is even worse) are brutal with packages. I'm never contacting the manufacturer within the first 30 days. If something is wrong upon receipt (or before the first 30 is up), it's going back, or I'm asking for a refund.

And back to this superauto. Is that a nice interface or what? Seriously, this is one of the nicer superauto's I've seen in this price range.

I have a Philips with a similar (I'm guessing) autofrother. Big fan; that one comes apart into two pieces that aren't very difficult to clean up. One takes a bottle brush, but still only ~15 seconds. I use soy milk and clean it out maybe once a week, keeping it in the fridge between uses.
