I'll tell you tomorrow . Bought one. Figure $20 couldn't hurt. My mattress is fairly old anyway.
So I just got it about an hour ago. It says to let it roll out and expand for a day or two but honestly it looks like the shape is already normal and fully expanded. I haven't put my mattress cover or sheets on it yet. I have laid on it. It's nothing amazing but for $20 it makes my decade old mattress feel much better. I'm sure it pales in comparison to a high dollar topper but if you're just looking to add some extra comfort this seems worth it.
are these "cooling gel" toppers actually cool? Or just cool for a little bit then get warm like any other memory foam?

I tried a 3" version of this (different brand) a few years ago and it was way too hot for me because I sunk in too much. I just bought this one in 2" so hopefully it won't be too thick. It's replacing one of those old egg crate (non memory foam) toppers from many years ago. Hopefully it will be a good replacement for that.

They also make a non-cooling memory foam topper for about $10 less. That implies that the cooling gel probably does something.

It's odd that the item is both a Bestseller and on Clearance.

I wouldn't expect too much from the price, although the price is what makes it tempting. It's a lot cheaper than the $300 latex topper I was considering 😙
Time magazine listed it as the "Best value mattress topper for back pain." And that's when the Queen size was around $100. I've quoted the review below.

https://time.com/shopping/article...20firmness.

From the Time article:
Quote :
Best value mattress topper for back pain: Serta Thermagel Cooling Memory Foam Mattress Topper

Back pain is bad enough without the added discomfort of feeling your wallet getting gouged, but there are, at least, a few less expensive options worth considering. "If you're looking to save money, consider buying a memory foam mattress topper with a higher density," advises board-certified family medicine physician Dr. Laura Purdy. "This mattress topper offers excellent support and relief from pressure at an affordable cost."

Specifications:
Material: Memory foam
Firmness: Medium
Thickness: Two or three inch options
Available sizes: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, Cal king
Care instructions: Machine washable
Trial period and warranty: Free 90-day returns (offered by Walmart)
Price on publish: $64-$128

What we like:
Cooling
CertiPUR-US-certified for content, emissions, and durability
Inexpensive

What we don't like:
A minority of customer reviews complain it's a little too soft to offer the support they need

I bought a $300 latex topper and I somehow missed the bit about the abhorrent smell. I let it air out for a month and tried sleeping on it.. It made all my pillows, sheets, etc. smell bad and washing didn't fix them so they're in the guest room for now. The topper has sat in the garage closet for over a year now and it still smells bad haha.. It was comfy though

Yep, just a short time in a cool room. Foam mattresses in general are good insulators, so they will not cool you. Latex is "less hot" than Memory Foam. A soft foam topper will generally make things only warmer.
Sheets and mattress protectors/pads can make a difference too.
I hear Latex smells terrible, cooling gel only holds ambient cool temp for a little while until your body warms it up, passive air seems to help, and bamboo seems to be the most naturally cooling but I don't like the big quilted pockets... We have a really expensive sleep number bed ($6k I series right before the active temp control model came out but that's like $12k) but I was trying to add a memory foam topper for vibration and sound absorption without making it a lot hotter. Maybe I just get memory foam for the suppression and get a bed jet or something... thoughts?

Do these mattress toppers slide around and bunch up while I "topper" during seksy time?

Put it inside a zippered mattress protector.

Memory foam is awful for "seksy time." They've actually done polls and studies on this. Most people prefer the bounciness of an old fashion mattress. As such, a latex topper is probably better. But of course, it all depends on what you're actually doing during "seksy time."

I purchased two latex mattresses (one in 2012, one in 2020) and neither one smelled (much). Just a faint "new" smell which disappeared quickly. Also bought a number of latex pillows, both whole and shredded, and no smell issues.

I am pretty sensitive to smells, so maybe I got lucky. Maybe the particular latex process (Dunlop vs Talalay) alters the smell. Dunno.

Of course, Latex is a totally different price range. Sorry about OT. Embarrassment

No where on the packaging or instructions, was Serta mentioned.

However, "Elite Comfort Solutions" does show on the instructions and webpage, so I guess it is not a fake.

Also made in 2022, so already 2 years old.

Mine came in a box with Serta on the outside and the instructions had the model that I bought. I've slept on it 2 nights and so far I like it. It's not too thick where I sink way in but provides a nice soft mattress topper for me.

Mine was inside a Serta zipper bag inside a Serta labeled box.

Thanks! I bought the King. It arrived yesterday. I also have a puffy cover on top of it, my bed feels amazing!
