Correct.
Toyota built this as a compliance car to fill a gap in the lineup and has zero focus on it or care. If anything, it is the 'look we built an EV, it sucks!'. The first production run had WHEELS FALLING OFF. They recalled every single one! The car is slow and just utterly wild in it's idiocy.

We test drove the badge engineered Subaru version - the Solterra. Same car, different logo.
The list of infuriating choices piled fast. Want to move the driver's seat? BEEPS. CONSTANT BEEPS.
Want to back up? It beeps on the inside and inside only. Who are they warning?! Me? I"M DRIVING THE CAR.
The performance is just bad. It has a quick little bit of torque and then falls on it's face.
Did I mention the range sucks and that the car does not support fast charging so you literally cannot roadtrip it without hour-long-stops?
All in all, it just felt like Toyota was completely uninterested in building it as it is lower margin than gas/hybrid.

Then you have the ioniq 5. Hyundai's focus is straight up on on beating the Tesla Model Y. They are serious and in it. The car is shockingly better looking in person than the BZ4X. The interior feels like tomorrow and has innovative ideas, way more range, way better software, etc.
Korea is currently having the same moment that Japan had in the 90s, Hyundai should be taken seriously, esp in the EV space.

Most leases only allow around 10,000 miles per year.
Then they charge you per mile after somewhere around 15 cents to 30 cents per mile.
Keep this in mind.
Average miles driven per year for Americans is around 14,000.
So make sure to include an extra $600 to $1200 per year for mileage, depending on how much you drive.

Toyota has ZERO INTEREST in EV vehicles. They are planning for a hybrid future. This BZ4Z is proof of it. I would NOT be touching one of these.

Where do you see the evgo promotion?
It's oddly not very well advertised on Toyota's website.

About halfway down on the Toyota website.

I had looked at the bZ4X when I was looking to buy a new car back in the Fall just because I was curious. Didn't seem all that compelling an offering. I ultimately ended up getting a 2023 RAV4 Prime which I love. I can drive in EV mode like 90% of the time but I had no range or charging worries when I just took it on a road trip recently and drove it in regular hybrid mode. I haven't even bother to have the level 2 charger installed in my charger yet because I find that I just plug in overnight and it gets fully charged anyway. And EV mode covers pretty much most of my daily driving bringing the kids to school, getting groceries, etc.

For only $165, I am tempted to get one for a commuter car, you could probably make up for the lease cost with gas savings. I don't really care about the range as long as it can make 100 miles or so on a charge I am good for commuting and I have my normal SUV for anything else.

Tax reasons. Lease payments are an expense vs buying a vehicle which is considered an asset.

I must have missed that point when someone asked or cared?
I like how "they have zero interest" then produced an EV. Clearly shows how much "zero interest" they have. lol
Also, is not BZ4Z, its BZ4X

Brand new car with latest technology and safety. Always under warranty. If you are smart and do two year leases, most maintenance items are covered. Never need to buy new tires. I leased a Leaf in GA for $5250 total out of pocket, but got $5000 back. At one time, the Chevy Cruze could be leased as little as $8 a month for a 2 year lease with zero down.

To add to this, since this is an EV and I have always wanted to try out an EV, a $125 a month lease seems like a cheaper way to try out an EV without going for a full purchase and it let's me keep my current car as a backup.

I somewhat agree. But in California, with crazy high new car registration fees, and high electricity and auto insurance... bend over!

This is $299 in Tennessee, unfortunately. At $129 for the 23 or even the $189 for the 24, I'd be in. That's a really inexpensive way to do electric. But no, in TN it's $299/mo + $200/yr registration.

If your choice is to buy or lease a new vehicle, there are a specific set of circumstances where the lease makes more sense. If you buy the car outright, you are paying for 100% of the depreciation. If you find a car with a high residual and low money factor (like this Toyota), over the span of the 2 year lease, you're paying less than the depreciation. The residual buyout price winds up being higher than the actual market value. So if you walk away, you're coming out ahead, again assuming you are set on driving a new car and are only looking at the options to buy or lease. Obviously your best choice overall is to buy a 3+ year old used car and hold onto it for as long as it drives safely, but if you value having a new car and you can afford it, this is a situation where you're better off leasing.
