In general for most parts of the country the answer is yes, it's too late. That's why the price dropped substantially.
Still ok to apply for cold climates up north.
Here's a soil temp tracker which tells you the ideal time to place it:

Nature will give you a good clue every year as well…..when you see the yellow forsythia bushes blooming by your house, it's time to buy it. You can put it down then and up to a few weeks after.
Thanks for the post. Was about to buy Preen+crabgrass but this seems like a good alternative.
In general you can use leftovers from other years. What you have to watch out for is moisture getting in ( it gets in sealed bags). Once it does it causes heavy clumping which makes it a pain to put down.
I've seen YouTube videos where people put their left over fertilizer in buckets and get tight seal tops for them. I've heard of other people putting another bag over that seals over their original bag. I've heard they are called fertilizer bags but I have yet to see them.

Lawn won't die. The fertilizer will work just fine.
If it's going down late, which is the case for most of the country, the part that won't work is the crabgrass preventer.
I've used this product for years. It really does work great to knock back crabgrass before it gets a chance to sprout. I put this down in mid to late March in north eastern Maryland.
