But seriously, where do you relocate them to? Probably selfishly moving the problem to someone else's house or a non-native environment to cause other problems.

As a note to anyone using live traps, in many states it is actually illegal to release mice you catch onto property that isn't yours. Basically they don't want you making your problem someone else's problem.
If you can legally release them, I recommend leaving a little pile of food too (seed, nuts, etc). Typically mice will be very vulnerable moved to a new location as they are unfamiliar with the area and have no food stored. At least giving some food helps a bit.
Oh and release at dusk/night. In the daytime they are just super easy targets for other animals.

Sealing up the places where mice can get inside will help a lot, but can be difficult in some older homes. This should be the ultimate goal, stop them before they get inside.
