That's how it was with the Makita chain saw kits a few months ago. Lots of local stores had them, but you had to walk in to purchase.

They have clearance items on tables in front of the their self service checkout and down by the Pro center.
I was happy to find the 18" $10 deal...BUT they also had two 22" One+ hedge trimmers with the cutting sweep thing and rotational handle for $30 instead of $119. I have plenty of One tools and batteries already so I opted for the 22" instead.
Totally wasn't expecting that.

The DeWalt electric pruners were in the same section and not buying them was very difficult. The tool itself is a great price but a battery+charger gets expensive.
