Personally, home assistant is my backend with Apple HomeKit as my interface for my family and guests. Once you get this invested in home automation, you'll learn that certain products work better for you than someone else. Side benefit to homepod's is the ability to detect a fire alarm going off in your house and sending an emergency alert to your phone, and sound quality is a good bit better on this vs an echo dot

I've got friends that love these. I'm all in on the Apple ecosystem, but I just can't with the HomePod. Siri is just so useless and Spotify support is terrible.

That's partially because Spotify won't implement Airplay 2 just to spite Apple, but also because Apple slow rolled support for 3rd party music services in an attempt to bolster Apple Music

The HomePod/Mini ended up being a half baked product, with less than half baked voice recognition, and inadequate service support for the thing it's arguably best at: playing music. I wish it was better so much.

Absolutely. I haven't notice a lag with the audio sync and streaming on my Apple TV. If you have been using your TV built in speakers, two of these are an upgrade.

Nope, and I wouldn't count on it coming, possibly ever. Spotify and Apple have been locked in a long running legal battle over app store fees and both sides are doing everything they can to spite the other.

At this point Apple should be taking Spotify's stance as an opportunity to make Apple Music better and claim market share, but Apple Music, imo, continues to be vastly inferior.

I have Alexa, Nest and Home Pod all on the same tv cabinet. They all suck in their own unique way. Apple can't do web search worth crap but works great at music and controlling Apple TV (just tell it to pay the latest tv show you regularly watch, or rewind 30 seconds). Alexa is great for podcasts & amazon shipments. Google is still by far the best at answers (no answer about 1/3 of the time) but I wish ChatGPT would run on one of these three as it is best at distilling answers.

I use Home assistant as well and been debating on switching away from echo dots/shows. I have the older version of the amazon products and they have been terrible w/ voice commands and have been considering just jumping to apple.
