WiFi extenders are just going to give you a headache. You're better off replacing your home wireless system with a mesh network and if you name the wireless SSID the same, then all your smart devices reconnect with zero issue. I went from a Nighthawk to an Eero 6 Pro setup, and it was a breeze, easy peasy, up in minutes with no smart device the wiser that it was connecting to a completely new piece of hardware.
