While this is lower cost, it's much less fuss with the steam wand if it's your daily driver. It's bring your own grinder though!

Puck screen: I bought one together with the espresso machine, I had the same thoughts then ("helps keep the group head clean of coffee grounds"). It turns out, that it is useless really. I never use it now. The group head is clean without it. Simply flush 50ml hot water though it (without the portafilter) after making your espresso.
The funnel above is great, I have the same one. However, I prefer the one with the 3 ears, which you screw to the portafilter ( less coffee grounds on the rim of the basket after WDT or tapping). Make sure you buy a stainless steel one. Those made of aluminium are not precisely manufactured.
The tamper recommendation above is good.
Scales: I recommend "Tiny2S", but only if you can get them for less than $25. The current price on Amazon is ridiculous.
However, I haven't personally done any rigorous testing and I am still using a WDT simply because everyone says I should. I haven't noticed any obvious improvements, but the possibility remains that I am a dullard.

H28 fits between 18 and 23 grams
He means, that it is a bad idea to fit, say, 16 grams of coffee into the latter basket. Because there will be too much empty space on top. Many people like "18g ground coffee in, 36ml espresso out"; then the H24 is better for them.

Going through the comments in this thread, the inconsistency issue is because the cheaper machines use thermoblock technology that heats the water "on the fly". The advantage of this technology is super fast start-up times (ready to brew in ~3 seconds after starting the machine). The disadvantage is that your first shot will be inconsistent, so I advice people to "purge" the brewer for few seconds with hot water to get to stable temperature. Just 2-3 second blank shot is adequate. Then put the portafilter and brew your espresso.
The automatic frother is really great, and I really appreciated that in my early days before I learnt to texture milk manually. For folks who like Latte/Cappucino or other milk based drinks, its a godsend.
other Breville machines are not so impressive
