Spouse wanted to get a Hatch for the baby so it went on the registry. It's fine. I haven't noticed the app problems because I never open the app. We pretty much just use it as a white noise machine and a very dim lamp, so we have it cycle between those presets and "off" when you touch the ring. The only time I open the app is to change the volume (like, when traveling and positioning the Hatch closer to / further from the baby).
If it had been my money and my call, I would have gotten a much cheaper white noise-only machine. Maybe when the kid is older we'll want to use it like a fancy colored light alarm clock. Really, I don't even see that being uniquely valuable except for travel, since our house is full of smart bulbs that don't require an entirely separate app to program / use.

Hatch used to be great and now it sucks donkey ass.
They changed the app to be horribly designed. Constantly bombarded with ads. Look at the recent App Store reviews.
This company wants you to subscribe to their subscription. God damn, even my kids ALARM CLOCK is going subscription route. Ridiculous.
