You're aiming for those numbers?! I'm usually looking for more like 20g in, 30g out in 35 seconds at 9.5bar.
There are so many other factors that go into this such as roast, freshness, type, and origin that it's really up to personal taste and your setup. I have different ratios for different roasts, and obviously the difference in workflow between store-bought and fresh roasted is wildly different, for me anyway. YMMV.

I have the express impress touch and use the portafilter that came with it, not bottomless. Is this a upgrade to use with a bottomless version?
No, you do not need a bottomless portafilter to use this basket. You can remove the plastic insert from the stock portafilter, and then the IMS basket will fit in.

But before removing the plastic insert, make sure that your stock portafilter is made of stainless steel. (For example, Bambino Plus comes with a stainless steel portafilter, while Bambino comes with a plated aluminium one). It's probably safe, but it's probably better to avoid hot acidic espresso coming into contact with plated aluminium.

I have the Touch Impress and it seems even after almost a year, there is still so much new things and possibilities to learn. Had no clue there was such thing as a high-flow basket. This would probably not work well with the automatic functions of the Touch Impress and I would have to go into manual mode. Definitely not the level of skill I am at yet. This is probably the most informative comment section of a front page deal in a long time.

Question: what do you use to remove the filter baskets? I have just been using any random spoon. Is there a specific tool I should get?

I just use another basket lol

Breville's own grinder. As the thread was about a basket compatible with Breville, I did not expect comments from Silvia users which is way over the Breville budget where my comment should be considered.

The Breville grinder is crap.

Don't bother. They're really nice and all but almost impossible to dial in. You're just better off using the breville baskets. I've farked with my IMS for two years now. And while it can do a better shot than the breville. You won't get a solid puck. It requires absolutely perfect shot prep. And it's just a total pain the ass

I've been using the Barista Express with the stock portafilter and basket with (I think) good results. Is there any reason to get this over the stock basket?
Absolutely none unless you invest in a grinder significantly better than what your Breville has.
(I spent $15 so you don't have to.)

It is what it is. I wouldn't say it's crap, it does a decent job, but of course there are better ones for significantly more.

Correct, you would need a bottomless portability to get full use out of this. This is a higher flow basket allowing you grind even finer. If you're using the built in grinder on the impress i'd say you don't need this.

A bottomless portafilter can also spray everywhere if your bed of grounds isn't pristine and uniform.

I have this for my Bambino Plus which I use alongside a bambino plus. I do appreciate the deeper basket though.
I have a Bambino + bottomless portafilter too, and couldn't solve the channeling issue. Tried all sorts of coffee freshness + grind setting + WDT methods, still have random spraying.

Would this basket help with channeling? I'm about to give up and just go back to spouted portafilters.

No, it is very unlikely to help with channelling.

I am sorry to hear that you can't solve this problem. Perhaps you already know all this, but just in case:
1) Have you tried to grind so fine, as to achive "18g in, 36g out, in 30 seconds", using freshly roasted beans (roasted between 1 and 3 weeks ago)?
2) If yes. Then do you have a decent grinder? Kingrinder K6 is a manual grinder, it costs $99 and might help with channelling, if your current grinder is a sub-par $100 electric grinder.

I have tried this one and the normcore 54mm basket and I find the normcore to function superior to the IMS precision. The only caveat is you have to use a paper filter in the normcore because grinds will get stuck in the holes otherwise. The filter doesn't remove too much of the oils/flavor from the coffee in my opinion.

There are several videos on how to remove the baskets, and one of them is to use an unused basket and clip the basket off like what youre doing with the spoon. The metal baskets are super sturdy and they work great. I personally use the single baskets as i never use them.
