Seagate Store has their One Touch Hub drive external USB 3.0 drive in 8Tb size (only) on sale for $130+tax shipped free
vs. $200 retail or $170 on Amazon (where there are allegedly >250,000 reviews) or $213+$20 shipping on NewEgg
Seems like a decent deal on a well-reviewed external HDD if you're into that.

I did this with two 3TB Seagate external drives years ago. They were purchased about a year apart and the newer one failed first. After that I looked closer and discovered the newer failed one was SMR and the older one was not.
So not a good backup/Time Machine drive. Or good since it is just mostly sequential backup?
My NAS probably does optimize or reallocates the files, that could be the reason my 2 8TB SMR Seagates crashed and burned.
You might have to research how Time Machine handles what they use to save the files. Maybe others can help with method. Maybe go to Time Machine forum room and check with others that are using SMR drives.
I'm not saying SMR is bad, and "newbies" are not generally aware how to use these drives, so research how to use a drive like this. I explained how I use it, (and how not to use SMR drives for home use).
