Seagate Store has their One Touch Hub drive external USB 3.0 drive in 8Tb size (only) on sale for $130+tax shipped free

vs. $200 retail or $170 on Amazon (where there are allegedly >250,000 reviews) or $213+$20 shipping on NewEgg

Seems like a decent deal on a well-reviewed external HDD if you're into that.

this is an SMR drive, don't use it for anything but mostly one time recording of data, sort of like a quasi dvd or blu ray write. Once you rewrite these it has layers it rewrites on top of each other and is super slow and it erodes that lifespan of the newer data (and older layered data). Look online for an exos drive or similar that is not SMR if you can.
SMR drive
Also, HD pricing sucks. I bought a similar Seagate, also 8tb, from Costco in 2022 for $129.

I'm not sure SMR is necessarily responsible for them dying, but a quick rabbit hole does confirm the earlier "treat them like burned DVDs" suggestion.
SMR seems at least to contribute to a higher failure rate if you do a lot of writes. Using it for backups means you'll mostly do writing.
I did this with two 3TB Seagate external drives years ago. They were purchased about a year apart and the newer one failed first. After that I looked closer and discovered the newer failed one was SMR and the older one was not.

So not a good backup/Time Machine drive. Or good since it is just mostly sequential backup?

It is hard to tell. If the app reallocates and optimizes the files, it could move the files and that would not be good at all. I use my WD 5TB portables SMR and just plug into my PC, and transfer the files , and then remove drive and put in safe place.

My NAS probably does optimize or reallocates the files, that could be the reason my 2 8TB SMR Seagates crashed and burned.

You might have to research how Time Machine handles what they use to save the files. Maybe others can help with method. Maybe go to Time Machine forum room and check with others that are using SMR drives.

I'm not saying SMR is bad, and "newbies" are not generally aware how to use these drives, so research how to use a drive like this. I explained how I use it, (and how not to use SMR drives for home use).

I bought for my ps4, ir ps5. I couldn't use it because it had over 8tb. It had like 8.01 terabytes. U tried partitioning it, tried to decrease the size partition. Still, Neither the ps4 or ps5 would format it. I requested to return. Awaiting for seagate to approve return request. I may buy the recertified wd 8tb on ebay for $100
