To anyone that doesn't know about Tesla, they use a 16V lithium ion battery instead of the 12V lead acid batteries on newer models for the low voltage system. Some inverters don't like the higher voltage.

Dear plug boss.. Thank you for your contribution to it all.
I think all my vehicles have a 15A fuse for the cig/aux port, and they aren't capable of maxxing that unless the motor is running. Makes me wonder if the designer of the product intentionally did that to prevent overtaxing the alternator on smaller vehicles.

I don't think that's true. I saw one review from someone saying this and they were trying to run dewalt battery chargers off of it. Those things draw 4-6 amps at 120V = 500-700W of draw. Their conclusion that it works with the car off but not on is probably a flawed conclusion based on limited data.
If anything, this should be capable of outputting *more* wattage with the car running because the input voltage is higher. The limitation will be the fuse protecting the wiring of the lighter circuit, which typically is 15A @ 12V. At 14V, which is what the alternator would output, you'd be able to squeeze more watts onto those wires before hitting 15A. But I bet the inverter itself has a cutoff.
