For Frodo.
This series turned into garbage and marked the end of King's commercial success.
Journey before destination gancho.

The other problems were his disinterest in the series early on, I think when writing The Wastelands, which was another example of a lot of nowhere ideas that amounted to nothing. If he is to be be believed, he had to be coaxed in because readers wanted more, and editors wanted to give the readers more, leading to some real half-baked ideas that went absolutely nowhere, or flat out crapped on the original material.
If anyone else's name was on it, it would have been long forgotten into obscurity, but I wouldn't deny that there was some great writing in there, even if it was spread very thin over too many volumes.
I also agree on his attitude in the last book. Seemed disrespectful to the readers, and pretty anticlimactic, but by then he wrote a lot about how checked out he was, like an old lounge act that couldn't be bothered.

I haven't read all his work, but his ending aren't usually great. I read them because I like his style of writing and how he builds his worlds. This one did have a blah ending but man's did I enjoy the journey.
HIGHLY recommended, but only after reading the books. No idea how impactful these would be (or not) as standalone.
I read most of these via Kindle (local library) but they didn't have all of them so I bought the others (for much more than this price). These look great on a tablet.
