The iPhone 11 is very old at this point, I wouldn't recommend anything older than the iPhone 12.

I had an iPhone 11 up until 2023 and the main issue was that the chip would get crazy hot. Battery was also affected by that

I was using an iPhone 11 like 6 months ago and it was behaving totally fine. Disagree that it's not usable right now, and the battery life will be right up there with the 12 whose battery life was natively poor.

Understood. For what it's worth, each phone does have it's own SIM activated (and inserted) right now. I just called the "Unlocking Department" and they confirmed when each of my phones will be eligible to unlock and the dates seem to correspond with when I activated their individual SIM cards. Hopefully I dodged a bullet here but I guess I'll see in 55-57 days. Ironically, I ran into a similar issue with a phone from T-Mobile just yesterday. NIB phone that I got for "free" but never used. Went to unlock it so I could trade it in and they said it wasn't eligible because was never activated on their network. Lesson learned.
Ah, that's cool … it sounds like you should be good then as long as they're all showing as activated with them. And realistically, you should still be able to call in and get it unlocked even if it doesn't happen automatically … but dealing with those guys can be a headache sometimes, so making sure the auto-unlock is triggered can certainly make things easier.

Thanks. I will put the sim and text unlock for the 2nd phone as well. Don't wish to run in to issues
i waited for a week (after online activation) to see if activation status updates on sickw. It didn't. today I put sim in and setup phone. activation status updated right away on sickw. BUT, texting unlock to 611611 shows date as 60 days after online activation.

so.. best to activate sim physically in phone to have apple servers in sync with TW status.

I'm confused on the activation part. I have the phones delivered now so do I activate online or just insert the sim? Are the SIMs tied to the port-out numbers?

The sim doesn't seem to be tied to the port numbers, numerous users have used differt numbers from what was put in to order the phone. Some have gotten new numbers, i assume that was from inserting sim and activating on the phone, but not clear .I didn't find a way to get a new number on the web site, it wouldn't move on until I put a port number in.

Just my 2c, since the unlock date shows as the online activation, I think it will unlock without the sim being inserted, the apple activation would occur as soon as inserted even after the unlock date. and reboot should show no sim restrictions.

Sickw shows the Apple-activation status if I remember correctly. That's completely different from the cell service activation on the Total side. The unlock countdown is always tied to the activation of the cell service, not the physical phone activation. However, the warranty clock is generally tied to the physical activation of the phone on the Apple side (although I have heard of some exceptions to that). If you check the warranty date at at Apple's checkcoverage website, it will probably show that your warranty started when you physically set up the phone.

- Login to online account
- Go to "Activate" link at top
- Pick "New Phone Activate"
- Pick "Keep my number" and type out number
- Then IMEI or whatever they ask for

Yep, I've had multiple phones from past deals unlock without ever opening the box or touching the SIM. However, there's always an added risk that something could go wrong since you may not recognize a problem as easily. The key for me has always been to make sure that the new phone's IMEI shows up as "active" on the Total website and that line / plan actually gets to the point of counting down the days of service left. However, I've never ported a number in, so that's a possible added complication.

This has been an ordeal. Finally got my GV email saying number is ported out and when I called was told it should be active tomorrow afternoon.

Looks like you can't activate 2 phones using GV back to back. When I tried to activate the 2nd phone, it tells me to call, and brings up the 1st activation that's still in progress. I guess I'll wait a day or two.

It's been posted in thread that first phone needs to be fully activated before activating second.

When should the SIM be inserted after receving the package?
Should it be inserted right away and then initiate the google voice number to be ported?
Or should the SIM be inserted after port is complete? Thanks in advance!

Port the number using the website first.
