The iPhone 11 is very old at this point, I wouldn't recommend anything older than the iPhone 12.

I had an iPhone 11 up until 2023 and the main issue was that the chip would get crazy hot. Battery was also affected by that

I was using an iPhone 11 like 6 months ago and it was behaving totally fine. Disagree that it's not usable right now, and the battery life will be right up there with the 12 whose battery life was natively poor.

Appreciate the help but didn't work. I think it has something to do with the info when porting in - I don't think Total asked for my carrier address (it only asked for my address) or the password for my GV account when I activated my phone.
Which address you put does not really matter, but acct# and pin#, you must have in order to make the port in from GV or any other carrier, and TbV asks that info during port in process, good luck

$75 for $800 over 2 years, you won't make that in the stock market or any savings account.
But how much will you be paying in phone bills to T-mo or AT&T in 2 years?

We're porting GV over into this and getting the 1 month service. Not flipping the phone actually keeping, we just don't intend to spend the $50 on a second month and will wait for the unlock. Will we lose the number and have to get a new number with whatever carrier we choose to move to after unlock?

You mean above and beyond what I'd be paying to have cellular service? Absolutely zero. I'd be paying that cell phone bill regardless. Might as well turn $75 into $800 at the same time.

Yes, you'll need active service in order to port out so if you don't pay for 2nd mo then you won't be able to port out after the phone unlocks -- the line will be suspended for non-payment (don't know how long they hold the number before they release it to original carrier)

Just use a GV number that you don't care about -- otherwise port another number (Tello has $5 plan so you can get new number from there)

If you're happy with the monthly amount that you'll be paying anyway, then that's OK. But for someone like me who can get by with Tracfone service at $40 PER YEAR, it makes no dollar sense to sign up for an expensive post-paid plan and pay for 2 years in order to turn a $75 iPhone11 into $800 in bill credit.

You can buy the metro iPhone 11 deal for $75 plan and zero phone cost and trade that in to Apple Store for $160 credit. Makes a new 11 inch iPad Pro effectively under $500 if you buy enough of them. Or you can trade it in on T-Mobile or ATT for ~$800 in bill credits towards a 15 or 15 pro (and the bigger sizes). $75 for $800 over 2 years, you won't make that in the stock market or any savings account.
Na, you'd be better in te market.

$40/year? That's amazing. I don't think I could get that to fly with the whole family. Definitely got me to look that one up, but I don't see it anywhere

I can't seem to find this. I'm guessing in the T&C?

This deal is out of stock now but Tracfone sells it frequently on Ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/285030288045 . For $40, you get two Orbic flip phones, each comes with 1200 talk minutes, 1200 texts, 1200 MB, and 1-yr of service. I can buy that deal, then "harvest" the bundled minutes/texts/data and 2 years of service to add to my own Samsung S24 phone. Even if each month I use 200 minutes, 200 texts, 200 MB of Data (typically each month I use less than 100 minutes, about 150 texts, less than 100 MB of Data), that will last me 1-yr, for $40. Of course, that won't work for someone who uses their phone a lot.

Sometimes on HSN,QVC, phone with a year of service with1200 min,1200 text, 1.5gb for the year, sometimes eBay can get 2 phones, plans for $40, usually flip phones but swap sims to smart phone.

When you say "harvest" do you mean transfer all the minutes/texts/MBs to one line from the two flip phone lines?

Yes.
* If you don't currently have a phone on TF, then activate Flip phone #1 with a new phone number. The bundled 1200/1200/1200 and 1-yr of service will be added to phone #1 at activation. Then activate Flip phone #2 WITH A TRANSFER from Flip phone #1. The phone number of phone #1 and its balances/days will be transferred to phone #2, then its own bundled 1200/1200/1200 and 1-yr will be added on top. If you're fine with using the flip phone, that's it. If you prefer to use another Bring Your Own Phone, buy a $1 BYOP TF SIM Kit and transfer service from phone #2 to the BYOP Phone.
* If you currently have a phone on TF (let's call it phone A), then activate Flip phone #1 WITH A TRANFER from phone A. The phone number of phone A and its balances/days will be transferred to Flip pnone #1, then the bundled buckets and 1-yr get added on top. Activate phone #2 with a transfer from phone #1. Then finally transfer service from phone #2 back to phone A.

All of the activations and transfers can be done yourself on TF web site.
