I like EV's a lot (currently own 2)… rented a Polestar 2 for a week while traveling and really hated it. Felt super small inside and did not make good use of the interior space like most other EV's do. We had heard good things about Polestars and were surprised how much we didn't like it. It was such a treat to return home to our Bolt EUV.

Sadly, the Polestar cars have the worst possible ratings according to Consumer Reports.
Otherwise I would consider this car.
Eh Consumer Reports have been a mixed bag for EV reviews IMO.

There are definitely issues with Polestars. I read up threads in the Polestar subreddit https://old.reddit.com/r/Polestar/ every once in a while. People mostly love it though.

And Toyota/Subaru owns the "worst possible ratings" EV crown. Credit where credit is due.

First time doing the lease, some questions.
1. Should title, registration fees be included in the down payment, or are they something additional?
2. I see $450 disposition fee in my dealer quote. Is it negotiable?
3. someone mentioned $299 + tax monthly. Does the tax apply to everyone or just some states?

Thanks!
i'm trying to negotiate the dealer fees. i get $1,645 but not a breakdown. i'm sure if not all of that is negotiable. they did tell me they can't adjust the price of the vehicle, so there still is some wiggle room.

yes $299/month is a good deal, but i'm just trying to go up a trim to get pilot + plus for $299/month. plus trim adds ~$2k. will let you all know success or not.

i still can't figure out their tax calc's. i thought in my state (not TX) it was upfront + first month * tax rate. but it doesn't work out correctly.

Model 3 with FSD subscription is a way better deal. If you don't believe me, you have not tried it.
Used to own TSLA stock, now with Elon firing the entire super charger team of 500, head of HR just quit or fired, key long time senior execs jumping ship, I think Tesla is a dumpster fire now. Would not touch Tesla with a 10 feet pole….star… pun intended.

Sorry I am new to lease stuff... So effectively you will be paying about 9 thousand to keep this car for 3 years and then you have to give it back to them?

So maybe obvious, but absolutely test drive a Polestar 2 with your family. I found they look/drive nice with all the features I wanted, but for a bunch of six-footers it was downright claustrophobic inside and the back seats are tiny. There's this weird choice Polestar made to pad everything out so you feel like you're inside a Reebok Pump shoe where everybody else seemingly went to maximize cabin space. Also, if you don't mind used, at least last year there were a ton of cheap Polestar 2s available thanks in large part to Hertz dumping them. We ultimately went EV6, but the Polestar 2 was in the final running for a while.
I got the EV6 as a rental from Avis a few weeks back and liked it more than I expected. Drove really well, and had a ton of space.

Keep in mind, that is an insurance company telling you that. They want to maximize premium and minimize claims. Core business model.

Yes, they cost more to repair. But did the lady on the other side also mention that Teslas are the safest cars in the world, with an across the board 5 star safety rating for all categories and sub-categories, and active safety features that significantly reduce the chance of accident, and reduce the chance of hitting a pedestrian? No, probably not. They don't want to say that and give you a discount.
lol you're basically doing marketing for Tesla Smilie.

She did not mention anything about the safety of Teslas. Doubt she has much of a clue unless she is interested in the space and reads up reports on car safety and such.

That's because the BZ4XYZABCD (or whatever that car is called) was mostly built as a compliance car. I expect their newer models to be much better rated.

I used to have TSLA and NIO (from angel round as VC). Both went on a roller coaster and we made some money. we look at EV stock sectors as over hyped and unbalanced, so we cashed out and move from car manufacturers to battery manufacturers. The gen 2 battery is on the way (for example https://www.wsj.com/business/auto...yURL_share). Because of the advanced battery technology, all the EV today will suffer higher than average depreciation in 3 years. Thus Polestar won't be the last EV brand with huge lease discounts in 2024, until the EV market production and demand balance out with new price defined

Yes, that's the idea. You're paying for the depreciation of the car.

I am currently running under the impression that leasing is a good idea for EVs because of how fast technology is changing.
