100k or bust
How do folks who have CSR or CSP feel about Chase's travel portal? I find that while I can get a 50% bonus on point redemption, the stuff is usually marked up a bit so that I'm not getting that amazing of a deal in reality. For example, the price might be 10% higher than I could get on Priceline or directly through the airline/rental car company/hotel, so it makes it more like a 35% bonus.

For me, the math on the CSR is becoming hard to justify. The lounge benefit is losing restaurants, the annual fee increased, I don't get a ton of value out of the DoorDash benefit. This is probably my last year, but I might be enticed by another signup bonus like this.
i hardly if ever book directly on the travel portal, not great value because like you said, prices arent the most competitive. i typically use it to transfer points to air france or southwest if i see a good deal with the airlines directly.

I have a no-fee chase sapphire, downgraded from a chase sapphire reserve about 3 years ago. Would I qualify for the bonus offer? If so, should I upgrade the card or get a new one? Thanks
1. It has to be 48+ months since receiving CSR bonus
2. You must downgrade or cancel the Sapphire card
3. Must be a new application to receive the bonus

When did you get your last sign up bonus? It has to be over 48 months before you can get another. You'll need to cancel your existing sapphire card as well or you can't get another. As long as you have another chase card that earns points you can just move everything to that account for safe keeping.

Thanks for the response.
I got the bonus offer about 5 years ago. I have had the downgraded no-fee chase sapphire for about 3 years (I don't really use it). The issue is that the credit limit on it is $25K and I would hate to lose that. I have a Freedom no-fee, too (I wonder if I should relocate credit line instead - or if it would hurt when I re-apply???)

Do you have any suggestion on how to approach this?

How much time do I have to wait if I cancel the chase sapphire no-fee today, to apply for the chase sapphire preserve and get the new welcome bonus?

Thanks!

You should definitely transfer most of your credit over to another card before you cancel. If needed you can always transfer the credit to the new card.
From past threads it may be best to wait two weeks after you cancel your current card to apply for a new one.

Worst case is you call them to verify you no longer have a sapphire card.

If you have a large amount of spending to do, you could instead go for the in branch offer, 75k for 4k spend in 3 months and 10k more points if you spend total 6k.

How do you know when you received the bonuses last time?
My suggestion is to look at your credit card accounts on creditkarma. I just looked at my own account, and I can see my credit cards that I currently have open as well as the ones that I've closed (mine goes back as far as 2015). You can click on each one and it should tell you when you opened the credit card. If you know when you opened the card, then you can add 3 months on top of that date (that's usually how much time you have to earn a Chase credit card sign up bonus). Now you know roughly when you last received the bonus.

There's some guess work if you have multiple credit cards from the same bank, because in creditkarma they'll all be listed as a Chase card, a Citi card, an Amex card, etc. But you should be able to figure out which is which.

30 days. There's no particular reason for you to cancel the plain Sapphire, instead of downgrading it to another Freedom card. Downgrading means that you can apply for the new Sapphire Reserve account in 4 days, instead of waiting a full month.

I applied for this card in March and got 60k points. Is there a way to match the current 75k points offer?

For CSR, I use $300 travel credit for the first year. Then wait for 12th statement to be generated and use travel credit again and cancel before 1 month to avoid 2nd annual fee.
So, basically got $600 in travel credits for about $600 in Annual Fee you paid for 1 year.

This is popularly called double dipping!!

What are eligible for travel credit?
Even if you are not a big traveller, things like uber, toll bills are eligible for a refund.
As soon as 12th month statement is generated, I usually prepay $300 towards toll bill and get a $300 within a week and then cancel it.

Seems like the card kinda sucks other than the big sign up bonus. Not hard to find these reward categories in no-fee cards. Are people just signing up and then cancelling in a year or two?

Is the reserve a better value?

If you factor in annual fee, isn't csp way better?

Also can you sign up for both cards to get both sign ons?

Finally is 75k considered good now? Don't they go up to 100k every now and again?

100k has only been available once & it was back in 2017/18. 75k points is a decent offer, it has been 65k for a while. 85k would be nice, but Chase is very frugal with their offerings.

Chase only allows one Sapphire per person, so you either choose the CSP or CSR. In my opinion, if you factor annual fee, the CSR is better. If you take into account the $300 annual travel credit, etc. It will balance the fee out.

Nut up and get the Reserve instead, you cowards!

Ok, maybe not if your situation isn't right for it (don't travel much) or credit score isn't 750+. But I never thought I'd be willing to spend a ridiculous $550/year fee for any credit card, but all the perks have easily covered and leaped past the fee in the year that I've had it.

Plus those psychos gave me a $50k limit since I have a ~815 credit score, no debt aside form a mortgage. I'm just shy of a six figure income and think it's pretty insane and even scary that they gave me a limit of over half my pre-tax yearly income.

I pay off in full every month and have with every credit card I've had over the past decade, and of course this card has been no different, but that limit gives an equally 'hell yeah' and scared AF of somehow my stupid ass maxing it out like I did on my first CC with a $700 limit back in freshman year of college.

Still, it's oddly satisfying knowing that I could just buy a car or two on this stupid card.
You could save $40,000 for a car, use this card to buy the car, and pocket the points.
