San Martin makes reasonable quality GMTs now using the same Seiko movement (and my experience the quality all around is a noticeable upgrade at a lower price point).

Case in point, GMT with Seiko NH34 automatic from San Martin:

About $150 after discounts: https://watchdives.com/collection...f=s9c3q5q0

Way better bracelet and clasp than the Seiko 5 GMTs (I have both the Black dial with applied and the white dial with printed indices). Swiss BGW9 lume on the Black and Swiss C3 on the White - lume is better if you get the applied indicies though

At the same $300 level you can get a truly premium looking piece:

And my personal favorite GMT (I like the sizing better than the Tudor GMT)- also has the Seiko inside.

The Inevitable Watch Expert Journey:

Phase 1: Quartz is for children, automatics are the only real watches.

Phase 2: Acquire a box or seven of automatics. Star to wear them. Suddenly one stops keeping good time, so you get it serviced. $120 dollars later you go 'at least its running well'. Then 3 or 4 more do the same thing after you schwack your wrist on a door jamb or your desk at work......."ummmm"....$600 later you say "Man I could have bought another watch with that money!".

Phase 3: Buy a quartz watch, you know..as a 'beater'...only for 'around the house wear'. Realize the watch is always on time, and when it stops...you replace the $8 dollar battery yourself. Find yourself wearing it out more and more because you don't have to constantly set it. The date may be wrong but nobody looks at that complication anyhow and you just grab and go it.

Final Phase: Acquire a case full of quartz watches because all watches are cool, they are just for looking at and nobody gives a rats @$$ about what movement it has, and you've learned that the people online who tell you to only buy autos............are n00bs

Great looking watch at $125.

Glycine use to be a real brand. They were known for their Airman which was a unique 24 hour zone watched. Used by Vietnam Vet Helicopter pilots. It was a unique, historical watch. A few Apollo astronauts wore them in the 70s

Then Glycine was bought out by Invicta and it went to the shitter. Before, that, they had a good run of diver's watch with Swiss ETA 2824 combat submariner clones.

I would only get a diver or a 24 hour zone Airman which was their original GMT. I have a Glycine but it is a re-imagined PVD Airman. With a ETA 2892 movement -- same movement used by Omega in their GMTs.

Invicta has no impact on the build quality of Glycine watches. Marketing and supply chain only impacts.

It has an impact on the direction of the brand. Glycine was in a position to be another Sinn or Hanhart. A toolwatch with some historical provenance. Now, it is a cheap fashion mall brand.

Same thing is happening to Mathey-Tissot (not to be confused with Tissot)

That's based in perception. I get what you're saying but their actual build quality is still there. The history is still there but that Invicta perception is hard to shake.

But they will pay $125 for it!
It's called false advertisement. They want you to believe that $125 is an amazing price. $1.4k lol

While they do want you to like the $125 price a high MSRP is not false advertisement. $125 is a pretty good price for what you get with this.

I'm no legal expert but I'd venture a bet there's some legal reasons for those high MSRPs.

I know MSRP/sticker prices for cars came about in the 50s because of a law that started with Senator Monroney.

Glycine watches are one of the best values out there.

My opinion is worth $1,400 but you can have it for $.02 cents. Wink

This is what happens when a good watch brand such as Glycene gets bought by a sleazy company called Invicta that does shitty price marketing giant discounts scam.

Sad to say that Glycene watches used to mean something and I was eyeing on buying one till Invicta came along and destroyed this brand.

With that logic Omega is junk because Swatch owns them. "Gylcine"-

Swatch did not treat Omega customers like kids how Invicta now Glycene does to its customers. MSRP $2,000, on sale for $125. Give me an effing break!. It is $125 because it is a $50 watch marked 3 times over.

"Glycine"

MSRP is just marketing and perceived value. It must work for Invicta because they don't seem to be changing their ways. I guess some folks out there believe the crazy MSRP and feel like they got a great deal.

Still a good watch for $125.

Just received the GL0369 this evening. Beautiful watch (metallic blue face), great weight, smooth movement, nice finish. For $125 this is a steal. I own 2 other Glycine automatics at a much higher price point and I love them and wouldn't get rid of them. Wanted a more daily wear watch and this looks to fit the bill. One criticism, the button that sets the dual time zone setting has a rough click. Not a big deal as I don't anticipate to set it very often.

If you want to play the "is it worth it game" let's talk about the Chinese replica business and how the $500-$1000 replicas are making Omega and Rolex look.
The high end market is mostly smoke a mirrors with tooling that has been in place for making these movements since the turn of the century. You're paying for a name at the end of the day. If the watch is made well that's really all that matters.
