Movement is from the dated 7s series, which means no hacking (seconds hand will not stop when the crown is pulled) and no hand winding supported. They are very reliable and will last longer than most would own the watch. A replacement movement is cheap and easily sourced in the current market.

What kinda style are you going for? Dive, pilot, field, dress, casual? A like the Seiko alpinist for a well rounded design that works pretty much anywhere. If you're closer to the budget presented here, I'd honestly recommend you look at Aliexpress. There are many brands that use seiko movements and better equipped for the price here
Unfortunately seiko has largely left the "good value" arena in the sub $500 space. For that budget, the classic recommendation would be the Orient Bambino 38mm. There's a few different dial types they offer, but the main drawback is a 19mm lug width (not sure if newer versions changed that in recent years). This means less options for watch straps, but not a deal breaker to me.
