This is more to keep someone running off with your bike while you grab a drink. Obviously not very secure but for a convenience crime, enough of a detterrent.

These are security level zero. All you need is a hammer to break the plastic cover against the pavement or a frame.

Folding locks are way better for this purpose. They all have frame mounts, deploy quickly, and are fairly light compared to u-locks, but still have high resistance ratings. Cable locks are basically obsolete (one could argue using one for a front wheel in combination with a good lock on the frame, but a cable wire without the lock on it is fine for that purpose).

Cable locks have their use, mainly to secure items on the bike (a nice bike seat) or something like a wheel with a quick release. They're secondary locks only, you combine them with a heavy duty U-Lock or chain lock that the thief needs power tools to get through.

The cable style is also nice for riding with kids. Easy to lock 2adult and 2 kids bike together to a pole for a quick stop.

Agreed. It might buy you a few minutes, or deter someone if your bike is just sitting there unsecured ("steal me please!"). Or even give a thief incentive to move to another bike that's not locked.

I have a cheap Kryptonite chain lock for this purpose. I would never trust it for more than a minute or two. I'm not sure I'd trust even expensive locks. A resourceful thief with a battery-operated angle grinder can get your pricey Moots VERY quickly in almost any case.
