Newegg via eBay has 750W Seasonic Connect Comprise Prime 80+ Gold Full Modular Power Supply PSU w/ Backplane (SSR-750FA) on sale for $70.49. Shipping is free.
Thanks to Deal Hunter SehoneyDP for finding this deal.
Product Description:
During installation only need to use two cables from the power supply to power the CONNECT. While the power supply itself supports the +12 V, -12 V and +5 Vsb rails, the CONNECT converts this power to provide the +3.3 V and +5 V outputs from the +12 V rail.
Unsurpassed silent performance in Fanless Mode. The fan control button at the back of the power supply allows users to customize cooling needs by selecting between Seasonic S2FC (fan control without Fanless Mode) and S3FC (fan control including Fanless Mode)

The idea is to mount the backplane piece on the back side of the motherboard tray.
So, if a case has any space for routing cables behind there then it is likely that this PSU will work fine.
I would guess most modern midsize cases would work well with this.
This looks like something they said 'if we make it like this a LOT of people will buy it thinking it's advanced and be unable to use it and have to buy a different one we sell.
A cheap way to introduce people to our ecosystem.
This would be good in one of those Hyte brand style cases where there's at least 3 inches of room on the backside of the motherboard. The Corsair 5000D MIGHT be a good candidate here but I have some doubts. I helped someone build in one of those and I was expecting more on the backside then what was actually there
I just want to say I love your last sentence. Sir Mix-a-Lot would agree.

I bought this last week for $79. (Oh well...)
Fits it into a Corsair 4000 case w/o any trouble. The backplane is just thin enough to fit on the side. Uses magnets to hold the backplane to the metal case.
I have this power supply and it works well - just to note, it is best to use WITH their cases to be sure everything fits together. I am unsure if a random case would accommodate this well.
I do like this idea because it provides good modular access. I typically add 1 or 2 extra SATA power cables just so its available. This would make it easier in that sense to leave it out unless needed. However, I would see some crazy cable management going one. My cables are a mess (Just a little organized). I really think this could cause a mess with some of my cables already shoved behind the motherboard that I dare not open.
Seasonic makes some of the best power supplies, you really cant miss when picking any of their products.
Agreed. My Seasonic PSU in my gaming PC is from 2011 and has been running 24/7 for 13 years now, zero issues. It has outlived 2 full PC upgrades and still going strong. If building new I would buy another seasonic in a heartbeat.
I have a Phanteks Eclipse P500A mid-tower case with an Asus z490-E Gaming Motherboard. Will this fit? The Super Power Leadex III 750W I currently have has developed an annoying loud fan that I don't think is working properly and I'm worried it will soon fail. I always hated the "Eco" fan modes of the Super Flower (fan on/off constantly due to load) and wanted a replacement.
Sorry for the noob question, but what is a good case to use with this power supply? Or is it universal?

It needs like and inch of space... I have no idea where people are getting that space is the issue I'm not sure I've ever seen a case this wouldn't fit in other than some of the slim all in ones and micro cases. Any standard case with like an inch of space behind the backplate is fine.
The only fitment issue you may encounter is whether your case has access openings needed for the wiring. Most modern cases have openings at the top bottom and front side of the motherboard but if yours doesn't you may encounter issues with needing longer cables to reach from where the stick on this mounts.

I am just worried that if the wire between the psu and the plate fails it kills everything
You understand that in basically any power supply if one component fails it's bricked unless you want to open it and solder it and trust continuing to use it? I don't know why a power cable would be your concern for point of failure it's probably the least common failure point in a power supply.

Its not universal, its a specific seasonicone if case. Its been a while since i looked it up, but the power supplies are awesome, but the cases you have to use are kinda sub par for the money
It's as universal as any other power supply. There is no special seasonic case needed.

Should fit without an issue. You might need to remove a couple of the honestly extremely bizarre amount of extra SSD and HDD mounting brackets it has as there appears to be 3 of those on the backplate so you'd likely need to remove the forward most one to mount the power bar there. They look easily removable in the photos anyway

It's a Seasonic. They're S-Tier PSUs.
